- Synopsis
- Thomas A Becket had been murdered and the whole of Christendom accused Henry Plantagenet of the murder. Henry was, at this time, at the height of his powers. Shrewd, cunning, a brilliant ruler, governing England and a large part of the Continent, he was beset by frustration, most of which came from his own family, for his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, had grown to hate him and had sowed discontent and resentment in their children. Henry's adventures with women were numerous and it was when Eleanor discovered Rosamund's Bower, the secret abode of the King's mistress, Rosamund Clifford, that she determined to work against him. Henry had one great secret to hide.
