Synopsis: Mackenzie Dobson knows the rules. Be careful walking alone at night, avoid anyone who growls and report suspicious behaviour to the nearest registration bureau. One bite or scratch and you could end up infected with Lupine Syndrome - the werewolf virus - and holding a one-way ticket to the nearest rehabilitation camp. Not that knowing the rules does much good. Mac's best friend, Amy, knew the rules and a werewolf still tore out her throat. Four months later, Mac, Kyle and Jason - Amy's two best friends and her boyfriend - are still trying to pick up the pieces. As Jason searches for a way to find Amy's killer, Mac discovers a terrible secret about Kyle when he saves her from a brutal assault: he's infected. She's suddenly caught between a friend who's sworn to kill a werewolf and a friend who actually is a werewolf. And when another series of attacks rocks Hemlock, Mac begins to suspect that Amy's death might not have been the act of a lone, crazed werewolf. If she can dodge an extremist anti-werewolf group and a group of wolves sent to investigate the attacks, she might be able to figure out who was really behind Amy's death. But werewolves and mysteries aren't the only problems Mackenzie is facing. As Mac starts to realize she has feelings for Kyle, Jason reveals a secret he's been carrying for months: minutes before Amy's death, he broke up with her because he was in love with someone else: Mac.
