I was forced to read it for school. The story just seemed to drag on. Not until the ending did it start to get exiting. As well, at the end there were many unanswered questions

it was a good book. i like the way they build up your suspence in certain areas. it's very intresting except when they give huge descriptions of certain things that can be a little bit boring! but otherwise the whole book is fantastic and unexpected things come to your way!

I liked how Wyndham wrote this book. It shows that some people can be very negative to other people just because of the way they look. I had to read The Chrysalids for my engligh class, and I felt that even though I don't normally like to read for long periods of time, I just couldn't put the book down! I really enjoyed reading this novel, and I hope that others will too!

Tribulation has struck the world and most of the land is covered in thick radiations. Because of the radiations many new species were formed and people weren¡¯t born properly. People who are most similar to the Old People, people before tribulation, live in Waknuk which is in Labrador and people who got kicked out of Waknuk lived in the Fringes where the food is scarce.David Strorm, the son of Joseph Strorm who is the leader of the Waknuk, has telepathic ability. He found about 9 people with the ability in Waknuk and later finds out that his sister Petra can communicate as far as half way around the world by telepathy. He leaves Waknuk with his cousin Rosalind and Petra to look for the land where all the people have telepathic powers. Would he find the world he dreamed of? This profound book made me think more about the future. The conversations of the characters, has a This could really happen if we don¡¯t take explosive bombs with caution. As I read through I was astounded at how humans develop in order to adjust to the new environment.

I would give this book 4 stars! You can tell that the author uses imagination! At first with "Sophie" having 6 toes i thought it was dumb! but know that i know what its about...i really enjoyed this book!!!:)

Joseph Strorm is the character in the novel that has the greatest disliking toward Blasphemies. Joseph is the father of David Strorm. He is a strong believer in God and his life is based around his religion: "The Norm is the Image of God." (p.27) In the book the reader gets the idea that Joseph is not a very good father and is very strict: "I'll deal with this. The boy's is lying. Go to your room." (p.51) He is a cruel and inhumane person to anyone who has or is involved with a deviation. The reader would see this attitude when Aunt Harriet visits the Strorms and brings her deviant child with her: "Send her away. Tell her to leave the house - and take that with her." (p.71) Joseph did not show any sympathy at all toward his own sister in law.Sophie Wender is also another female fighter in this book. David and Sophie are close childhood friends when she is separated from the community because she has a sixth toe. Yet David and Sophie meet again in the Fringes about ten years later. David is one of the few protectors of Sophie's secret of her deviation: "Will you keep a secret - an important secret - for her sake?" (p.12) Sophie reminds me of Aunt Harriet a lot with he ways they look at their problems. They both face their problems for what they are: "I was still staring at it when she flung her arms around my neck and kissed me, with more determination than judgement." (p.49) When Sophie and David meet up again it is under the circumstances that David was the one being hunted as a blasphemy. Now Sophie is hiding David's secrets and has become David's protector: "They'll never think of looking for you here, why should they?" (p.176) Sophie ends up dying in a battle against the search party that was after David.<p> The Chrysalids is a book that has such a range in different emotions toward different people. Wyndham is showing the issues of discrimination and makes you feel what it is like. Joseph, Aunt Harriet, and Sophie all have a different part in the issue of discrimination. Yet all three ended up dead in the end and that just proves why discrimination is so pointless.
