- Synopsis
- Fakir Hassen has been in the journalistic and broadcasting profession for almost four decades. Recognised as the doyen of the India entertainment industry in South Africa, he spent a decade at Radio Lotus, the public broadcasting service for the Indian community of South Africa. Fakir has established special relationships with many of the leading Bollywood stars across two generations. He writes about Bollywood for a range of print and electronic media in South Africa on a weekly basis, including reviews of the latest Bollywood cinema releases, not having missed a single release for more than three decades. In 2010, Fakir wrote the book 150 Bollywood Encounters-the South African Connection to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Indians to work as indentured labourers on the sugar cane fields in South Africa. The book was sold out within six weeks, with demands for a reprint. Fakir decided instead to rather spend some time updating that book and adding in new material to result in what you have in your hands – 250 Bollywood Encounters – a candid account of good and not so good views, interviews and opinions on more than 250 people from the Indian entertainment industry
