Synopsis
ABOUT THIS BOOK When my Dad Sammy Naidoo suggested the idea of this book to mark the advent of our dear friend Fakir Hassen's 70th year, it sparked off memories about Fakir and I working together to prepare a somewhat rushed book for my Dad's own 70th last year. That was my first effort at putting together a book of this nature, so the challenge of repeating the exercise on a much larger scale was initially a little daunting, especially given the way in which Fakir is so highly respected in the community. But with Fakir's assistance, the project turned out to be a unique book that I have no doubt will be appreciated not just by his own family and friends, but even by those who will find it in libraries for generations to come long after we are all gone. It will no doubt serve as an inspiration to emulate a life well-lived in service of humanity by a person with humble beginnings who has retained that humility for so many decades to gain so many friends, who share this in their messages. My family and I are proud to have had a long relationship with Fakir, both personally, and professionally through the Apple Group of Print Companies. The innovative ideas he has come up with, not just for the 26 books that we have done together, but many other projects in the interest of the community at large as well, are reflected by many contributors in this book. The numerous awards and accolades that Fakir has received, many of them alongside my Dad, as can be seen in the book, will always remain for me a firm memory of my two greatest mentors. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity of contributing to the legacy of a man that so many admire and see as a role model, in particular young people who are now in prominent positions of public influence. -Shumarlan Naidoo
