- Synopsis
- Federal and state government agencies in the US rely primarily on the Program to keep track of the status of all domestic volcanoes. The review committee concludes that it must either increase the size of its staff significantly; partner with other programs or organizations; or scale back its mission and retrain its staff to focus on monitoring and crisis response, thus relegating fundamental research, hazard assessment, and outreach to subsidiary roles.
