This is a good book. I'm not sure why it took me forever to read its 350 pages but i enjoyed every minute. This easily readable jam-packed history has all the classics like Johnny Appleseed, John Muir, the CCC and the chestnut blight. But it also gives in depth coverage to the evolution of the lumber industry and forest service including Weyerhaeuser and Pinchot. And then there's the story behind DC's Japanese cherry trees and Smokey the Bear. It ends addressing tropical rain forests and carbon sinks. So much to learn!
