'THe Kraken Wakes' is without a doubt the most neglected of Wyndham's novels. Its breadth and scope are breath taking, yet the spot light has long since shone on the Triffids in lieue of their early film ventures. The Kraken can be seen in a similar vein to 'The Day of the Triffids' it concearns the end of the world viewed through the eyes of an ordinary man 'a radio script writer', however unlike the Triffids it is a much more believable book with the slow drowning of the world being evoked in a factual and deliberately cool manner. The premise is simple, and like all simple ideas the story comes across magnificently via the clues that our initially unwitting protaganist is a witness too. I cannot sing its praises enoug, and highly recommend that you read it.
