- Synopsis
- In this introductory textbook, Rochester (political science, U. of Missouri at St. Louis) examines the dilemmas of US foreign policy, which he finds analogous to the situation of Swift's Gulliver tied down by the Lilliputians. After providing a broad bush portrait of the international system, an introduction to the typical intellectual problems associated with the study of foreign policy, and a brief history of the conduct of US foreign policy from George Washington to George W. Bush, he turns to contemporary debates over neoconservatism, liberal internationalism, and realism and current issues concerning the "War on Terror," the Bush Doctrine of pre-emption, controlling weapons of mass destruction, humanitarian interventionism, and the International Criminal Court.
