- Synopsis
- WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN FANTASYLAND . . . 1. Consult the Map. Find your starting point. 2. Open the Toughpick section at random to select your tour. . . . Smells are everywhere and strong, and, except for those of enchantresses and incense, unpleasant. Even danger has a Smell--the reek of wrongness^. There is something in the chemistry of the land that makes Smells. It is probably a fallout effect of magic, but see also socks and trousers. Socks are never worn in Fantasyland. People thrust their feet, usually unwashed, straight into boots. Sorcery is sometimes a general word for magic, usually connected with wiles^, but also sometimes a technical term, referring to that part of Magic entailing the storage and use of power. In the latter case, the Sorcerer becomes a sort of battery. Speech. On some Tours it is necessary to adopt a highfalutin' form of Speech. Instead of saying "I will go out and take a look" you have to say "I shall now walk forth and examine things without." This is tiresome to have to keep up. Even more tiresome are those panceltic tours where you have to keep remembering to say "Och aye" and "Top of the marnin' te ye." But these are the Rules. See also languages.
