- Synopsis
- When Sarah Pollexfen dies in 1971, her diary which chronicles a family's tragedy, is read. The author demonstrates his love of Ireland, its best and worst deeds, and his ability to weave narration of the present with the past, and to treat his characters with grave sympathy. An innocent boy is judged guilty and shunned while a other very guilty children are blameless in the eyes of the community.
