- Synopsis
- Rabbi Baruch HaLevi Epstein, son of the Aruch HaShulchan (HaGaon Rav Yechiel Michel HaLevi Epstein) and nephew/brother-in-law of the Netziv of Volozhin, is perhaps best known for his magnum opus, Torah Temimah. Among his many writings was a four volume work entitled Mekor Baruch, which, besides being a comprehensive history of the Epstein family, and a storehouse of biurim and pshatim on Torah and Gemara, also includes two volumes of memoirs and reminiscences — one of the Netziv and the Volozhin Yeshiva, and the other of his father, the Aruch HaShulchan. His close family ties with the gedolim of his time and his years of learning in Volozhin enabled him to accumulate a wealth of anecdotes and stories about the leaders of klal Yisrael at that time.
