Synopsis: Visiting the sick leads a curious clergyman into a web of danger and greed at a secretive nursing home . . . Part of Rev. Oxford Christie&’s duty is to comfort the sick, but the nursing home where he shows up to see a patient feels strange and unsettling. One of the many facilities owned and operated by The Group, Incorporated, brings in profits far exceeding that of the typical nursing home—and some residents seem to have mysteriously disappeared. The state&’s inspection systems are deeply flawed, and Ox is aware that severe, ongoing abuse can easily go unchecked. The corporation soon becomes aware of Christie&’s nosing around—and orders are given to do whatever is necessary to stop his snooping. Now Ox, aware that he&’s being watched, is torn between the possible danger to his wife and children and his suspicion that what&’s happening to helpless patients is far worse than what he&’s witnessed . . .
