- Synopsis
- In this collection, the author draws together a group of short stories with diverse characters. As he explains, they range from "the old to the young, people on the run from the law to people leading seemingly stable lives. Whatever their circumstances, the characters are haunted by a curious inner call to make a change for the better, whether they always heed that call or not." In "Come See Us," a couple accepts a seemingly friendly dinner invitation from another couple, only to find the situation grow increasingly unsettling as the evening advances. In "Heading for Shore" a man has a transformative experience when he escapes a shark attack. In the title story a young man teaching English in Mexico is inadvertently involved in a deadly hit and run accident.
