- Synopsis
- The wild and beautiful Stormy is the kind of horse young Hugh Star has dreamed of since childhood. He finds Stormy in Avalanche Valley when he returns to the Canadian range country after some years in the city. But he also finds his father's Shooting Star ranch run down, the cattle gone, and his uncle, who was left in charge of the place, strange and unfriendly. Feeling unwelcome at his uncle's, Hugh camps out at the abandoned Shooting Star. With the spirited Stormy as his partner and an old cowpuncher backing him, he plans rebuilding. Some day he hopes to bring his parents back to the ranch where he knows they will b happy again. If he can only win through this first year! He knows he has enemies in the range country, and even the weather seems against him, but he finds he has made some friends, too. What he and Stormy fail to do at the Calgary Stampede, they find the courage and skill to accomplish when real danger comes and lightning sends a neighbor's terrified cattle on a rampage. The range, the open sky, riding, roping, cattle rustlers, and the mystery of his uncle's strange behavior keep Hugh occupied, but he and Stormy learn together and the day comes when Hugh is ready for the champion riders at the Calgary competition.
