A children's author of both Newbery and Caldecott Honor Books, Rebecca Caudill was born and raised in Poor Fork (now known as Cumberland) in Eastern Kentucky. Though the family lived in poverty, they also lived with pride and dignity. This is Caudill's moving and personal narrative describing the region as she knew it growing up, and the desolation she found upon returning years later.
