Arthur Hailey is effective in an art that seems lost to today's writers of fiction thrillers. He takes his time. Extensive background research always lets him vividly enrich his tales with big doses of reality. In hotel, we not only see how such establishments are run from the inside, but we get a wonderful glimpse in to the mid-sixties, when this novel was written. But Hailey doesn't just paint a detailed canvas; he also involves us in the lives of a plethora of facinating characters. He crafts a plot that twists like a maze. He involves us in a story that keeps the pages turning and his ending does not disappoint. Though many of Hailey's books are out of print today, they make even better reads in the 21st century than they did when first conceived five decades ago.
