- Synopsis
- Since the 1988 edition, Trower (U. of Birmingham) notes that there has been exponential growth in the development and applications of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), a form of cognitive behavioral counseling that UK government policy makes widely available for emotional disorders. In an integrated approach, the authors cover the updated CBT model and practice plus basic principles of psychology that they consider insufficiently addressed elsewhere. Drawing on the cognitive models of Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck, they present a step-by-step general guide to CBT processes and applications to specific problems. The text includes case examples, excerpts from counselor-client and supervisor-trainee sessions, and appended clients' guides and worksheets.
