How do I sign up for Bookshare?

You can sign up for an Organizational Account if you are an educator who wants to provide books to qualified students or you are a representative of other organizations such as libraries, rehabilitation centers, community organization etc. that provides services to qualified individuals.

You can sign up for an Individual Membership to read Bookshare books for yourself or your child.

Organizational Account

Select the “My Class / Organization” button

1. On the Bookshare website, select the “Sign Up” button, then select the option to sign up for My Class / Organization.
2. Enter your work email address and create a password.
3. You’ll be asked whether you work at a school in the United States. If yes, you will be guided to search for your school or district.
   • If your organization is listed, select it.
   • If not, select “I can’t find my school” and enter school or district information.
4. Complete your profile information and select your role from the dropdown menu.
5. Review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, check the acknowledgment box, then select “Create Account” to finish.
6. You can now set up your account by adding members and other educators, and providing books to students

Student Individual Membership

Parents, select the “My Child” button.

If you are a student over 18, select the “Myself” button.

1. On the Bookshare Website select the “Sign Up” button and select the option for “My Child” or “Myself”.
2. Enter an email address and create a password. If an account already exists for that email, you’ll be told right away and offered the option to log in or reset your password.
3. Enter first name, last name, date of birth, and country of residence.
4. If student is under 18, enter parent or guardian information, review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, check the acknowledgment box, then select “Create Account” to finish.
5. You will be directed to your My Bookshare Page. Select the “Upgrade Today” button.
6. You will be asked if you or your child has a qualifying disability.
7. You have three options for providing Proof of Disability:
   • National Library Service (BARD)
     • Submit membership information
   • Learning Ally
     • Submit membership information
   • Bookshare’s Proof of Disability Agreement
     • Enter the email of a qualifying professional who can certify the disability or download the Proof of Disability form for signature from a professional, then submit to Bookshare.
8. You will be asked if you are a student. If yes, search for school name and state. If found, select it and enter your grade. If not, enter school information and grade.
9. Enter home address.
10. You will be notified when Bookshare has verified your Proof of Disability, then you can begin reading Bookshare books.

Non Student Individual Membership

Select the “Myself” button.

1. On the Bookshare Website select the “Sign Up” button and select “Myself.
2. Enter an email address and create a password. If an account already exists for that email, you’ll be told right away and offered the option to log in or reset your password.
3. Enter first name, last name, date of birth, and country of residence.
4. Review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, check the acknowledgment box, then select “Create Account” to finish.
5. You will be taken to your My Bookshare Page. Select the “Upgrade Today” button.
6. You will be asked if you have a qualifying disability.

Discounts or free memberships may be available through our domestic and international membership partners. Residents of World Bank designated low income economies are eligible for free memberships.
