GO FOR THE GOAL: Kick Off Your Summer Reading Challenge

The whistle has blown — Bookshare’s free summer reading challenge is live! From now through August 30, readers, educators, and organizations are teaming up to score 100,000 goals (books opened) before the final whistle.

Every time you read counts as a goal on our scoreboard tracker. As the community scores, we unlock milestones together — Amazon gift cards, curated booklists, bonus titles, and shout-outs across social media. Check the weekly leaderboards to see who’s leading among individual readers and organization all-stars. With over a million titles and built-in assistive reading features, every reader can be a champion this summer.

Do I have to be a Bookshare member to participate?

Yes — you’ll need a Bookshare account to access books and have them count toward the challenge. If you already have a Bookshare account, sign up with the Register Player button above. If you do not yet have a Bookshare account, sign up here!

What if I only have an account through my school?

Your reading only counts toward the Team Bookshare total if you’re registered with an Individual account. Parents can set easily add a free Individual Membershp on to the school account so their child can log in independently and read from the full Bookshare collection. Learn how to upgrade your account.

Who can join and is there a cost?

The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all Bookshare Members, no matter your age and the challenge is free. Bookshare is available to readers with a qualifying reading barrier, and is free for qualified U.S. students.

What counts as a “goal”?

Every time you open a book and read it counts as a goal  – no matter the device or format used.

How will I see progress?

The community scoreboard will refresh weekly, with any earned badge shown next to the name of our leaders.

Is my child’s information private on the leaderboard?

Readers are shown only by first name and last initial or a username. Any social-media spotlight featuring a top young reader happens only with parental permission.

What can winners and top participants earn?

Our Top Readers – both student and adults – will win Amazon gift cards! As the community hits milestones, randomly selected participants win Amazon gift cards and top individual readers, educators, and organizations get spotlight features on Bookshare’s social channels, and final winners are announced across all leaderboards at 100,000.

When does the Reading Challenge end?

The last day to score goals is through August 30, with the final rankings locking at midnight that night.
