Politics of Economic Inequality in China: Unbalanced Responsiveness (Routledge Contemporary China Series)
by Shuai JinThis book applies a novel theory of ‘unbalanced responsiveness’ to the issue of economic inequality in China to better understand the relationship between authoritarian regimes and their citizens. The book highlights how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has responded to dissatisfaction over inequality, with both propaganda and policy, revealing how the responsiveness in these two arenas is unbalanced. Arguing that whilst CCP propaganda claims to reduce inequality, its welfare programs have been stratified, unfair, and regressive, aggravating instead of alleviating inequalities. By utilising data from multiple national surveys, the book reveals that discrepancy between propaganda and policy ultimately generates further dissatisfaction and strong demands for redistribution. The findings of this study indicate how unmitigated and prolonged economic inequality could be a real threat to the sustained rule of the CCP regime. Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage wurde durch ein methodenkombiniertes Verfahren ein geeignetes Messinstrument entwickelt und anschließend bei ehemaligen Teilnehmer*innen und Interessent*innen des Austauschs eingesetzt. Die Daten des bundesweiten Samples wurden mittels statistischer Gruppenvergleiche analysiert, um mögliche Einflüsse des Austauschs zu ermitteln. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung zeigen positive Einflüsse des Jugendaustauschs auf viele der betrachteten politischen Bildungsprozesse. Insbesondere konnten positive Effekte des Austauschs hinsichtlich der Erweiterung der Konzepte zum Nahostkonflikt nachgewiesen werden. Die Studie zeigt auch, dass tagesaktuelle Ereignisse im Nahostkonflikt einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die gemessenen politischen Bildungsprozesse haben.

In einem neuen Kapitel legt der Autor die von ihm aus der Praxis entwickelte Formel für eine wissenschaftsbasierte Interessenvertretung dar. Mit dem am 1. Dezember 2009 in Kraft getretenen Vertrag von Lissabon ist die EU de facto zu einem von Portugal bis Finnland und von Irland bis Zypern reichenden Staatsgebiet geworden. Das Europäische Parlament wurde neben dem Rat der Europäischen Union (Rat) zu einem gleichberechtigten Entscheider. Das Mitentscheidungsverfahren wurde zum Regelverfahren ("ordentliches Gesetzgebungsverfahren") erhoben. Im Rat wurde die sogenannte qualifizierte Mehrheit (55 Prozent der EU-Mitgliedstaaten, die gleichzeitig mindestens 65 Prozent der EU-Bevölkerung repräsentieren) für alle wichtigen Bereiche eingeführt. Als Resultat ist für die Akteure auf der "Bühne der Europäischen Union" - EU-Mitgliedstaaten, EU-Regionen, Unternehmen, Verbände und Organisationen - der Ausgang von Entscheidungsprozessen weitgehend unkalkulierbar geworden. Damit wird die Differenzierung zwischen Fehlvorstellungen (falsche Antworten) und Ignoranz (fehlende und „weiß nicht“ Antworten) vernachlässigt. Die Beiträge dieses Bands greifen diese Differenzierung mit unterschiedlichen Untersuchungsdesigns und zu verschiedenen Politikbereichen auf. Die Befunde zeigen, dass falsche und fehlende substanzielle Antworten nicht zusammengefasst werden sollten, da sie sowohl mit unterschiedlichen Determinanten als auch verschiedenen Folgen verbunden sind.
