The stranger tried to be patient, calm, keep frayed nerves under control, but seeing that dog shift on his feet kept his mind from appointed bowl, the dog rotated his stares, and shifts; the discomforted man gave a jerk; grumpy old rancher swore at the dog, which ducked it's head as it shirked, all was quiet at the table for a moment, but saying relaxed would be lies. man and beast were competing for food in country where the hungry one dies, talk picked up as they emptied their bowls and the men and woman conversed, about what was the country's goings-on and what was gettin' better, or worse, but the big dog showed his nervousness and unsettled the stranger some, the dog was now crowding his elbow And the growling got him undone. ...
