Satiche Song

by Ravindra Kolhe

She should have been punished for the death of Begum's brother. Though she was punished, Begum could not be satisfied. Since all this was done through the disguise, it is necessary to punish the criminal in the same form. For that, Birbal asked that polymorphic to come up with a special passion. Birbal used the practice of Sati just like a thorn cut. Polymorphic was really a cast artist. Begum also forgot her grief and started shouting for her unhappiness. He lauded the art of polygamy and offered his family a big deal.

Saturday Boy

by David Fleming

If there's one thing I've learned from comic books, it's that everybody has a weakness--something that can totally ruin their day without fail. For the wolfman it's a silver bullet. For Superman it's Kryptonite. For me it was a letter. With one letter, my dad was sent back to Afghanistan to fly Apache helicopters for the U.S. army. Now all I have are his letters. Ninety-one of them to be exact. I keep them in his old plastic lunchbox--the one with the cool black car on it that says Knight Rider underneath. Apart from my comic books, Dad's letters are the only things I read more than once. I know which ones to read when I'm down and need a pick-me-up. I know which ones will make me feel like I can conquer the world. I also know exactly where to go when I forget Mom's birthday. No matter what, each letter always says exactly what I need to hear. But what I want to hear the most is that my dad is coming home.

And Beau Kim, whose "stone soup" Modified has been patched together from whatever parts he could scrape up. And no one could forget Amber Jenkins, a strawberry blonde who has what it takes to run rings around them all. Keeping everyone on track is Melody Walters, who knows that the impending rain might be exactly what they need to keep her father's speedway afloat--or sink it for good. In Will Weaver's high-revving novel, the first in the Motor series, a cast of car-obsessed teens and adults are all out to prove themselves, both on and off the quarter-mile track, as they move through their day on a collision course to meet on Saturday night dirt.

Saturday is Pattyday

by Lesléa Newman

Newman's lesbian family story, "Heather Has Two Mommies" (1990), created a furor when it was included in the New York Public Schools' Rainbow Curriculum. Now Newman tells a story of how a child feels when his two mommies separate and break up the family. As in any divorce, Frankie feels upset and anxious when Patty, his "other mom," moves into her own apartment. The first time he visits her and they picnic in the park, he cries and talks about his fears. "I'm scared. I don't want to get divorced," he says. Patty hugs him and reassures him that she will always, always, always be his mom. "Only grown-ups get divorced. Not kids," she says. From now on, he will visit her every week--Saturday is Pattyday. The bibliotherapy is reassuring, especially since the words and Hegel's expressive watercolor pictures are frank about the painful separation as well as about the parents' enduring love for their child. --Hazel Rochman (Booklist) The grammar is a bit off in this one. Good concepts, but not up to Newman's usual standards.... Still valuable in the children's library. Includes picture descriptions. Other books by Leslia Newman are available from Bookshare. This file should make an excellent embossed braille copy.

Saturdays And Teacakes

by Chris K. Soentpiet Lester L. Laminack

When I was nine or ten years old I couldn't wait for Saturdays. I got up early, dressed, and rolled my bicycle out of the garage. <P> So begins author Lester Laminack's poetic memory of the adult who made him feel incredibly special-his grandmother. Every Saturday, the narrator, a young boy, rides his bicycle up and down country roads past farms, a graveyard, and a filling station, until he reaches his beloved Mammaw's house. She is waiting for him. While she picks tomatoes, he pushes the lawnmower through the dew-wet grass. Afterwards, he always helps her make teacakes from scratch, breaking the eggs and stirring the batter. But the best part, he remembers, is eating the hot, sweet cakes fresh from the oven. Children will understand the special relationship of the narrator and his grandmother. Set in a small town in the Leave It to Beaver days of the mid-sixties, the story evokes a gentler and more innocent time and place. Young readers will almost hear the sounds of bicycle wheels on gravel and the criiick-craaack-criiick of a metal glider in Laminack's richly detailed prose. Award-winning illustrator Chris Soentpiet's images beautifully capture the relationship and the place, perfectly depicting the simplicity of an earlier time.
