Implementing iOS and macOS Documents with the Files App: Managing Files and Ensuring Compatibility

by Jesse Feiler

Rise above the basics of Xcode app development to implement tools like Share buttons and activity view controllers to share document content including parts of documents with other users and with other devices. This book fills the gap so that developers with even a fundamental knowledge of iOS and Swift can implement document creation, saving, and sharing in their apps.Since the launch of iPhone in 2007, users and developers have struggled with the fact that the file system is hidden. Fortunately the Files app in iOS 11 now offers this feature and it is supported by Apple apps such as Numbers, Pages, and Keynote as well as by the few third-party apps that support documents. By using the standard formats described in this book, you can make your app’s data shareable to and from other apps like Numbers, Pages, and Word. Files also provides an interface to tools such as Dropbox and iCloud so that users can open and modify documents in them. If you combine standard formats such as .doc, .docx, .jpeg, and .jpg with Dropbox and eMail, you have a simple way to implement and use cross-platform sharing to Macs, PCs, and Android devices.Implementing iOS and macOS Documents with the Files App provides the combination of skills developers need to build these types of apps—working with files and constructing documents. What You'll LearnAdd Document Support to Your Apps Share your documents with iCloud and Apple IDs across your Mac and iOS devices Use standard formats from .doc, .docx, .png, and .jpeg both for input and outputManage and organize documentsWho This Book Is ForDevelopers with a basic knowledge of app development and Swift. Implicit and Explicit Semantics Integration in Proof-Based Developments of Discrete Systems: Communications of NII Shonan Meetings

by Shin Nakajima Dominique Méry Yamine Ait-Ameur

This book addresses mechanisms for reducing model heterogeneity induced by the absence of explicit semantics expression in the formal techniques used to specify design models. More precisely, it highlights the advances in handling both implicit and explicit semantics in formal system developments, and discusses different contributions expressing different views and perceptions on the implicit and explicit semantics. The book is based on the discussions at the Shonan meeting on this topic held in 2016, and includes contributions from the participants summarising their perspectives on the problem and offering solutions. Divided into 5 parts: domain modelling, knowledge-based modelling, proof-based modelling, assurance cases, and refinement-based modelling, and offers inspiration for researchers and practitioners in the fields of formal methods, system and software engineering, domain knowledge modelling, requirement analysis, and explicit and implicit semantics of modelling languages.

Imposing Regulation on Advanced Algorithms (SpringerBriefs in Law)

by Fotios Fitsilis

This book discusses the necessity and perhaps urgency for the regulation of algorithms on which new technologies rely; technologies that have the potential to re-shape human societies. From commerce and farming to medical care and education, it is difficult to find any aspect of our lives that will not be affected by these emerging technologies. At the same time, artificial intelligence, deep learning, machine learning, cognitive computing, blockchain, virtual reality and augmented reality, belong to the fields most likely to affect law and, in particular, administrative law. The book examines universally applicable patterns in administrative decisions and judicial rulings. First, similarities and divergence in behavior among the different cases are identified by analyzing parameters ranging from geographical location and administrative decisions to judicial reasoning and legal basis. As it turns out, in several of the cases presented, sources of general law, such as competition or labor law, are invoked as a legal basis, due to the lack of current specialized legislation. This book also investigates the role and significance of national and indeed supranational regulatory bodies for advanced algorithms and considers ENISA, an EU agency that focuses on network and information security, as an interesting candidate for a European regulator of advanced algorithms. Lastly, it discusses the involvement of representative institutions in algorithmic regulation.

Impossible d’être fauché si vous avez un smartphone: Comment transformer votre téléphone en source de revenus

by Dave McAllen

Improving Accessible Digital Practices in Higher Education: Challenges and New Practices for Inclusion

by Jane Seale

This book examines the role played by technologies in removing the disadvantage experienced by students with disabilities in higher education. Addressing five key themes, the editor and contributors explore the practices required of stakeholders within higher education institutions to mediate successful and supportive relationships between disabled learners and their technologies. Ultimately, the book argues that practice in the fields of disability, ICT and higher education is still not providing consistent and widespread positive learning experiences to students with disabilities. In order to address this situation, the field needs to creatively integrate knowledge gained through both research and practice, and to re-imagine what is needed for ICT to meaningfully contribute to a reduction in disadvantage for disabled students. This book will be of interest and value to scholars of disability studies, education and accessibility, and educational technologies.

Improving Classroom Learning with ICT (Improving Learning)

by Peter John Rosamund Sutherland Susan Robertson

Improving Classroom Learning with ICT examines the ways in which ICT can be used in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning in different settings and across different subjects. Weaving together evidence of teachers’ and learners’ experiences of ICT, the authors: explain why the process of integrating ICT is not straightforward; discuss whether hardware and infrastructure alone are sufficient to ensure full integration and exploitation of ICT investment; emphasise the pivotal role that teachers play in supporting learning with ICT across the curriculum; argue that teachers need a greater understanding of how to put ICT to use in teaching and learning; highlight that out-of-school use of ICT has an impact on in-school learning; consider what kinds of professional development are most effective in supporting teachers to use technologies creatively and productively. Case studies are used to illustrate key issues and to elaborate a range of theoretical ideas that can be used in the classroom. This book will be of interest to all those concerned with maximising the benefits of ICT in the classroom.

Improving Consistency in Performance Measurement System Design: The Case of the Colombian Public Schools (System Dynamics for Performance Management & Governance #7)

by Robinson Salazar Rua

This book analyzes behavioral distortions in public schools and delineates outcome-based performance measurement systems that can prevent and mitigate them. An instrumental view of dynamic performance management (DPM) is used to support the endeavor by identifying how performance drivers affect end results of outcome and output, how end results affect strategic resources, and how strategic resources and benchmarks define the dynamics of performance drivers. This approach is also used to promote a shift from an output-oriented to an outcome-oriented view in performance management, with the aim of achieving sustainable results in the long term. The book also includes a comprehensive literature review at the end of each chapter, intended to strengthen readers’ knowledge and encourage further research. Given its scope, the book will appeal to graduate students in public management, researchers in performance management, system dynamics, and education, and decision-makers in public schools.

Improving Decision Making Using Semantic Web Technologies

by Tek Raj Chhetri

As technology becomes integral to our lives, its influence on decision making in smart cities, healthcare, and manufacturing is undeniable. However, challenges such as limited contextual awareness, domain knowledge, explainability of machine learning (ML), and issues of interoperability, data quality, and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliance in data sharing hinder effective decision making. This book addresses these critical challenges by exploring how the synergy of semantic technologies (SW), like ontologies and knowledge graphs, with or without ML, can overcome these challenges to improve decision making. Through real-world case studies in data sharing, manufacturing, and agriculture, it offers theoretical and practical insights and guidelines of how SW can enhance prediction accuracy, integrate domain knowledge, support ML explainability, and tackle interoperability, data quality, and GDPR challenges.
