by Kristie SullivanCrazy Busy Keto makes sticking to a low-carb, ketogenic diet easier than ever by making it simple. Whether you’re juggling work, school, children, pets, travel, or all of the above, you can follow keto with the simple tips and shortcuts outlined in this book. “Crazy busy” is a phrase we use when the week seems to spin out of control—like when the school project has to be done tomorrow but necessitates a trip to the craft store, which you will do after the dental appointment and the PTA meeting on your way to pick up the dog from the vet. How are you going to fit in a meal that leaves you feeling satisfied without kicking you out of ketosis? Kristie Sullivan has done the work for you by finding great low-carb options wherever you are, in as much or as little time as you have to eat. From grab-and-go convenience store and grocery store selections to hotel breakfasts to restaurant lunches and dinners, her quick and easy tips will streamline your keto life. There are breakfast options that are faster than a drive-thru, lunch ideas that don’t require refrigeration, and shopping tips that will save you time and money. Kristie has also included special tips for traveling, storing foods on the go, and slashing minutes off the clock each day, along with easy ways to avoid food waste. Each chapter features recipes that can be made without access to a full kitchen and that use common ingredients—no special-ordering anything online. Many of the recipes are traditional favorites that can easily be cooked in a microwave, such as lasagna, spinach artichoke dip, and even cheesecake, which can be made with as few as five ingredients and tastes amazing! In addition, Kristie gives ideas of lightning-fast assembled meals that will hit the spot in a pinch. The book also includes shopping lists for stocking your pantry, fridge, and freezer so that you have what you need, when you need it. Recipes include: Good Morning Granola Salad Bar Crustless Quiche (grab pre-prepped ingredients from your fridge or shop the grocery store salad bar!) Creamy and Crunchy: An Informal History of Peanut Butter, the All-American Food (Arts and Traditions of the Table: Perspectives on Culinary History)
by Jon KrampnerMore than Mom's apple pie, peanut butter is the all-American food. With its rich, roasted-peanut aroma and flavor; caramel hue; and gooey, consoling texture, peanut butter is an enduring favorite, found in the pantries of at least 75 percent of American kitchens. Americans eat more than a billion pounds a year. According to the Southern Peanut Growers, a trade group, that's enough to coat the floor of the Grand Canyon (although the association doesn't say to what height).Americans spoon it out of the jar, eat it in sandwiches by itself or with its bread-fellow jelly, and devour it with foods ranging from celery and raisins ("ants on a log") to a grilled sandwich with bacon and bananas (the classic "Elvis"). Peanut butter is used to flavor candy, ice cream, cookies, cereal, and other foods. It is a deeply ingrained staple of American childhood. Creating Equal Opportunities for a Healthy Weight
by Institute of Medicine Steve Olson Lynn Parker Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention Food and Nutrition Board Heather BreinerCreating Equal Opportunities for a Healthy Weight is the summary of a workshop convened by the Institute of Medicine's Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention in June 2013 to examine income, race, and ethnicity, and how these factors intersect with childhood obesity and its prevention. Registered participants, along with viewers of a simultaneous webcast of the workshop, heard a series of presentations by researchers, policy makers, advocates, and other stakeholders focused on health disparities associated with income, race, ethnicity, and other characteristics and on how these factors intersect with obesity and its prevention. The workshop featured invited presentations and discussions concerning physical activity, healthy food access, food marketing and messaging, and the roles of employers, health care professionals, and schools. The IOM 2012 report Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention acknowledged that a variety of characteristics linked historically to social exclusion or discrimination, including race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, age, mental health, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity, geographic location, and immigrant status, can thereby affect opportunities for physical activity, healthy eating, health care, work, and education. In many parts of the United States, certain racial and ethnic groups and low-income individuals and families live, learn, work, and play in places that lack health-promoting resources such as parks, recreational facilities, high-quality grocery stores, and walkable streets. These same neighborhoods may have characteristics such as heavy traffic or other unsafe conditions that discourage people from walking or being physically active outdoors. The combination of unhealthy social and environmental risk factors, including limited access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity, can contribute to increased levels of chronic stress among community members, which have been linked to increased levels of sedentary activity and increased calorie consumption. Creating Equal Opportunities for a Healthy Weight focuses on the key obesity prevention goals and recommendations outlined in Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention through the lens of health equity. This report explores critical aspects of obesity prevention, while discussing potential future research, policy, and action that could lead to equity in opportunities to achieve a healthy weight.

Creating a Common Table in Twentieth-Century Argentina
by Rebekah E. PiteDona Petrona C. de Gandulfo (c. 1896-1992) reigned as Argentina's preeminent domestic and culinary expert from the 1930s through the 1980s. An enduring culinary icon thanks to her magazine columns, radio programs, and television shows, she was likely second only to Eva Peron in terms of the fame she enjoyed and the adulation she received. Her cookbook garnered tremendous popularity, becoming one of the three best-selling books in Argentina. Dona Petrona capitalized on and contributed to the growing appreciation for women's domestic roles as the Argentine economy expanded and fell into periodic crises. Drawing on a wide range of materials, including her own interviews with Dona Petrona's inner circle and with everyday women and men, Rebekah E. Pite provides a lively social history of twentieth-century Argentina, as exemplified through the fascinating story of Dona Petrona and the homemakers to whom she dedicated her career.Pite's narrative illuminates the important role of food--its consumption, preparation, and production--in daily life, class formation, and national identity. By connecting issues of gender, domestic work, and economic development, Pite brings into focus the critical importance of women's roles as consumers, cooks, and community builders.
