Seitai (Lymphatic) Shiatsu, Cupping and Gua Sha for a Healthy Immune System: Cupping And Gua Sha For Supporting A Healthy Immune System
by Richard GoldTo ensure a well-functioning immune system, the lymphatic system must be healthy. This book provides detailed information on the principles and practice of techniques from East Asian medicine which vitalize and move the lymphatic system to get the immune system working at its optimal level. These techniques include shiatsu, cupping therapy and gua sha. Highlighting the significance of the omentum (a layer of peritoneum that surrounds abdominal organs), the book describes the dynamic physiological attributes of this mostly ignored component of human anatomy. Using the author's decades of experience working in East Asian and Integrative medicine, he expertly builds a bridge between Western theories of the immune system with Asian bodywork's emphasis on abdominal treatment. Innovative and insightful guidance for students and practitioners working in Asian Healing modalities and lymphatic techniques.
Seizure
by Robin CookSenator Ashley Butler is a quintessential Southern demagogue whose support of traditional American values includes a knee-jerk reaction against virtually all biotechnologies. When he's called to chair a subcommittee introducing legislation to ban new cloning technology, the senator views his political future in bold relief; and Dr. Daniel Lowell, inventor of the technique that will take stem cell research to the next level, sees a roadblock positioned before his biotech startup. The two seemingly opposite personalities clash during the senate hearings, but the men have a common desire. Butler's hunger for political power far outstrips his concern for the unborn; and Lowell's pursuit of gargantuan personal wealth and celebrity overrides any considerations for patients' well-being. Further complicating the proceedings is the confidential news that Senator Butler has developed Parkinson's disease-leading the senator and the researcher into a Faustian pact. In a perilous attempt to prematurely harness Lowell's new technology, the therapy leaves the senator with the horrifying effects of temporal lobe epilepsy-seizures of the most bizarre order. Torn from the headlines, Seizure is a cautionary tale for a time where biotechnology pulls us into a promising yet frightening new world.
Seizure and Epilepsy Care: The Pocket Epileptologist (Cambridge Manuals in Neurology)
by Samden Lhatoo Patrick Landazuri Nuria Lacuey Lecumberri Laura Vilella Bertran Mark FarrenburgEpilepsy is a frequently encountered disease, affecting 1-2% of the population, but one that is often mistreated due to misunderstandings of specific diagnoses and treatments.

Selected Papers of Charles H. Best
by Charles Herbert BestThe name of Charles H. Best, co-discoverer of insulin, Head of the Department of Physiology and Director of the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research in the University of Toronto, is familiar to medical and lay readers all over the world. The story of his early insulin research with Dr. Frederick Banting, as a result of which men and women and children who forty years ago would have had only months or days to live are now spared, has been one of the most dramatic in the annals of medicine. This volume records the achievements of forty years of medical research, giving direct and easy access to over sixty of Dr. Best's original important research papers in the fields particularly of insulin, heparin, and choline. It opens with the early papers describing the discovery of insulin, and continues with those dealing with its preparation, extraction, physiologic effects and first clinical applications. Dr. Best has also looked back over the record as given in these papers and provided informative and informal bridges between them which place them in historical perspective.Among medical scientists Dr. Best is equally well known for initiating and developing modern knowledge of heparin and its use in controlling unwanted clotting of the blood (thrombosis). The discovery of the nutritional importance of choline as a dietary factor that protects the liver was made by Dr. Best and his colleagues in 1932 and this subject has received continued study in Toronto. A number of papers dealing with choline and its dietary precursors (the so-called lipotropic agents) are reproduced in these pages. Other papers discuss the action of histamine, the pioneer Canadian work on collection and storage of blood serum and early experiences with the preparation of dried serum. A brief account of the contribution of Dr. Best and his colleagues to the Naval Medicine is included. Medical readers will find here a valuable condensation of all the enormous body of information on these subjects. All the references in the original papers have been re-assembled in a master bibliography which is a new and full storehouse of references. Most of the papers collected in this volume have been produced in collaboration with medical colleagues to whom Dr. Best at all times gives full and enthusiastic recognition. Indeed readers will receive a strong impression that while co-operation and collaboration in medicine are nothing new, the various teams assembled by Dr. Best at the University of Toronto have had an especially remarkable dedication and sense of excitement in the adventure of medical research.
Selected Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Anesthesia Cases

It is structured into four comprehensive parts, offering a blend of theoretical foundations and practical case studies to equip medical professionals with the knowledge needed for effective anesthetic care in this challenging field. The initial chapters lay the groundwork by detailing cardiovascular development during embryonal and postnatal periods, the physiology of the cardiovascular system, and the pathophysiology of CHD. They also cover critical techniques such as cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The subsequent sections explore into 80 clinical anesthesia cases, each meticulously documented to highlight the anesthesia process, expert clinical experiences, and analyses of potential improvements. These cases span a variety of contexts, including open-heart surgeries, non-cardiac procedures, and off-site anesthesia, providing a comprehensive view of the challenges and solutions in pediatric anesthesia. This book is an invaluable resource for anesthesiologists, pediatric cardiologists, and healthcare professionals involved in the care of children with heart conditions. It offers insights from renowned experts, making it a must-read for those seeking to enhance their clinical practice and improve patient outcomes. This book provides the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia with confidence and precision. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.
