Bicycling Maximum Overload for Cyclists: A Radical Strength-Based Program for Improved Speed and Endurance in Half the Ti me (Bicycling Magazine)

by Roy Wallack Jacques Devore

Bicycling Maximum Overload for Cyclists is a radical strength-based training program aimed at increasing cycling speed, athletic longevity, and overall health in half the training time. Rather than improving endurance by riding longer distances, you’ll learn how to do it by reducing your riding time and adding heavy strength and power training. Traditionally cyclists and endurance athletes have avoided strength and power training, believing that the extra muscle weight will slow them down, but authors Jacques DeVore and Roy M. Wallack show that exactly the opposite is true. The Maximum Overload program uses weightlifting to create sustainable power and improved speed while drastically reducing training time and eliminating the dreaded deterioration that often occurs during the second half of a ride. A 40-minute Maximum Overload workout, done once or twice a week, can replace a long day in the saddle and lead to even better results. This comprehensive program includes unique takes on diet, interval training, hard and easy training, and sustainable power. Backed by the most trusted authority in the sport, Bicycling Maximum Overload for Cyclists is a book that no cyclist should be without.

Bicycling with Butterflies: My 10,201-Mile Journey Following the Monarch Migration

by Sara Dykman

&“What a wonderful idea for an adventure! Absolutely inspired, timely, and important.&” —Alistair Humphreys, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year and author of The Doorstep Mile and Around the World by Bike Outdoor educator and field researcher Sara Dykman made history when she became the first person to bicycle alongside monarch butterflies on their storied annual migration—a round-trip adventure that included three countries and more than 10,000 miles. Equally remarkable, she did it solo, on a bike cobbled together from used parts. Her panniers were recycled buckets. In Bicycling with Butterflies, Dykman recounts her incredible journey and the dramatic ups and downs of the nearly nine-month odyssey. We&’re beside her as she navigates unmapped roads in foreign countries, checks roadside milkweed for monarch eggs, and shares her passion with eager schoolchildren, skeptical bar patrons, and unimpressed border officials. We also meet some of the ardent monarch stewards who supported her efforts, from citizen scientists and researchers to farmers and high-rise city dwellers. With both humor and humility, Dykman offers a compelling story, confirming the urgency of saving the threatened monarch migration—and the other threatened systems of nature that affect the survival of us all.

Bid Writing for Project Managers

by David Cleden

At what stage in the process do commercial projects go wrong? Some of the worst problems (unrealistic objectives, faulty assumptions, and poorly understood constraints) are 'programmed in' at conception when the bid is written, long before the project manager is brought on board. If the bid is misconceived, no amount of clever project management is going to recover the situation. Involving the designated project manager at the bidding stage is becoming the norm in many commercial organizations. Some make the project manager the bid manager so they can direct all aspects of the project's conception. Getting the bid right is the essence of planning for project success, and is the main theme of this book. However, many project managers are unfamiliar with the pitfalls of competitive bidding and don't know how to balance a compelling sales message against a realistic delivery plan. Bid Writing for Project Managers will guide prospective project managers through the bid-writing lifecycle, providing comprehensive guidelines and numerous tips on how to craft a winning bid and how to set the project up with the best possible chance of success.

Bidding for Antamina

by Peter Tufano Alberto Moel

In June 1996, executives of the multinational mining company RTZ-CRA contemplate bidding to acquire the Antamina copper and zinc mine in Peru. The Antamina project is being offered for sale by auction as part of the privatization of Peru's state mining company. RTZ-CRA has to determine what the mine is worth and decide whether and how it should bid in the upcoming auction. The bidding rules put in place by the Peruvian government dictate that each company's bid contain two components: an up-front cash amount and an amount the bidder will invest to develop the property if development is warranted after further exploration is completed.

Bidding for Development: How the Olympic Bid Process Can Accelerate Transportation Development (Sports Economics, Management and Policy #9)

by Ngiste Abebe Mary Trina Bolton Maggie Pavelka Morgan Pierstorff

In 2012, over four billion people tuned in to watch the London Summer Olympics. As the single largest mega-event in the world, the Olympics has the power to captivate the global imagination. Long before athletes vie for a gold medal, however, competition between cities eager to host the Games kicks off with a rigorous bid process. The lengthy and expensive endeavor to host the Olympics is as high-stakes as any sporting event. Rather than encouraging cities to refrain from bidding, Bidding for Development takes a policy approach that challenges stakeholders to bid responsibly and strategically in pursuit of concrete outcomes. Every bid city has the potential to accelerate long-term transportation development through a strategic and robust planning process. This book concentrates on the phenomenon of repeat Olympic bids and the opportunities that may come from bidding, particularly for those cities that never win the Games. In this context, Bidding for Development explores the intersection between transportation infrastructure development, the Olympic bid process, and the resulting legacies experienced by bid losers. The findings address the central question: how can participating in the Olympic bid process accelerate transportation development regardless of the bid result? In response, this book presents a Bid Framework outlining how and when cities may use the bid to unite resources, align transportation priorities, and empower leaders to achieve urban development objectives in preparation for the Olympic bid. The Bid Framework is then applied to two case studies, Manchester and Istanbul, to examine each bid loser's effectiveness in using the bid process to catalyze transportation development. Concurrently, the book takes into consideration how the International Olympic Committee's evolving bid regulations and requirements relate to urban development and positive social legacy. Bidding for Development delivers actionable recommendations for all Olympic stakeholders to improve the value of the bid process and transportation benefits beyond the Games.

Biddy Mason Speaks Up (Fighting for Justice Ser. #2)

by Laura Atkins Arisa White

Building on the brilliance of Fred Korematsu Speaks Up, the newest installment in the Fighting for Justice series introduces young readers to another real-life champion for civil rights: Bridget “Biddy” Mason, an African American philanthropist, healer, and midwife who was born into slavery. When Biddy arrived in California, where slavery was technically illegal, she was kept captive by her owners and forced to work without pay. But when Biddy learned that she was going to be taken to a slave state, she launched a plan to win her freedom. She refused to be defined by her enslavement, and coauthors Arisa White and Laura Atkins devote much of their narrative to Biddy Mason's later life as a business and civic leader in the fledgling city of Los Angeles. Biddy Mason Speaks Up is an age-appropriate yet unflinching examination of slavery, racism, and community healing in the United States. Each chapter begins with lyrical verse and full-color illustrations that draw readers into the narrative, and is followed by visually engaging sections filled with keyword definitions, historical context, timelines, and primary sources. Throughout the book, the authors pose questions to the reader, such as “How do you see power at work in your community?”, making Biddy Mason's story all the more relatable to the present day.

Bidirectional Collaborative Data Management: Collaboration Frameworks for Decentralized Systems

by Zhenjiang Hu Masatoshi Yoshikawa Makoto Onizuka

This book summarizes the results of solving the two issues from a 5-year national project in Japan, called Bidirectional Information Systems for Collaborative, Updatable, Interoperable, and Trusted Sharing (BISCUITS) since 2017, with researchers from the National Institute of Informatics, Osaka University, Kyoto University, Nanzan University, Hosei University, Tohoku University, and University of Tokyo. It provides a big picture of the research results, insights, and the new perspectives achieved during the project, paving the way for future further investigation. Along with the continuous evolution of data management systems for the new market requirements, we are moving from centralized systems, which had often led to vast and monolithic databases, toward decentralized systems, where data are maintained in different sites with autonomous storage and computation capabilities. A common practice is the collaboration or acquisition of companies: there is a large demand for different systems to be connected to provide valuable services to users, yet each company has its own goal and often builds its own applications and database systems independently without federating with others. As a result, we need to construct a decentralized system by integrating the independently built databases through schema matching, data transformation, and update propagation from one database to another. There are two fundamental issues with such decentralized systems, local privacy and global consistency. By local privacy, the owner of the data stored on a site may wish to control and share data by deciding what information should be exposed and how its information should be used and updated by other systems. By global consistency, the systems may wish to have a globally consistent view of all data, integrate data from different sites, perform analysis through queries, and update the integrated data.

Bidirectional Comparison of Nominal Sets: Asymmetry of Proximity (Studies in Computational Intelligence #1140)

by Maciej Krawczak Grażyna Szkatuła

The authors propose a novel measure of proximity between two sets of nominal elements. This measure describes the changes in the first set after adding the second set or changes in the second set after adding the first set.It is crucial to note that this measure is not symmetric, it means that the perturbation of the first set on the second set can be different than the perturbation of the opposition direction. The introduced set impact measure allows for the direct treatment of objects described by nominal-valued attributes. The ordinary sets, multisets, fuzzy sets, and the intuitionistic fuzzy sets are considered. The book is intended for data science professionals, philosophers as well as cognitive psychologists, who struggle with practical problems in which asymmetry of proximity of objects cannot be neglected. The use of the proposed measures of perturbation between compared objects can be very important in data mining or in exploration of Internetresources.

Bidirectional Transformations: International Summer School, Oxford, Uk, July 25-29, 2016, Tutorial Lectures (Lecture Notes in Computer Science #9715)

by Perdita Stevens Jeremy Gibbons

Bidirectional transformations (BX) are means of maintaining consistency between multiple information sources: when one source is edited, the others may need updating to restore consistency. BX have applications in databases, user interface design, model-driven development, and many other domains. This volume represents the lecture notes from the Summer School on Bidirectional Transformations, held in Oxford, UK, in July 2016. The school was one of the final activities on the project "A Theory of Least Change for Bidirectional Transformations", running at the University of Oxford and the University of Edinburgh from 2013 to 2017 and funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. The five chapters included in this volume are a record of most of the material presented at the summer school. After a comprehensive introduction to bidirectional transformations, they deal with triple graph grammars, modular edit lenses, putback-based bidirectional programming, and engineering of bidirectional transformations.

Bidong Island: Natural History and Resources (Geography of the Physical Environment)

by Ong Meng Chuan Melissa Beata Martin Mohd Yusoff Nurulnadia Wahizatul Afzan Azmi

Bidong Island is a small island located in the South China Sea, and is about 14 km from mainland Peninsular Malaysia. The island and the Bidong archipelago boast of its richness in diversity of both terrestrial and marine organisms and its undeniably pristine and thriving ecosystem. In 1975–1990, Bidong Island was formerly a UNHCR refugee camp for a quarter of a million Vietnamese "Boat people" escaping the Vietnam War, and still holds great significance to many of its descendants. Due to its historical significance, the Terengganu State government plans to develop Bidong Island as a heritage tourism site and a new scuba diving destination. This book highlights the uniqueness of Bidong Island and its archipelago, paying particular attention to the biological aspect (which includes marine and terrestrial organisms) and the pollution status surrounding the island. These mainly focus on organisms of the open water and benthic ecosystems such as plankton, fishes, corals reef communities, crustaceans and foraminifera. In addition, we discuss terrene related topics, which includes tree diversity, lichens and also herpetofauna surrounding the Bidong Island. Indisputably an important topic, we also address the pollution status surrounding Bidong Island, with emphasis on heavy metals and its impact.Readers interested in the areas of environmental sciences should find this book appealing. This book can also be used by students and researchers when discussing about tropical environments on island ecosystems. We do hope that stakeholders that would partake in future interest of Bidong Island (particularly in tourism) are equally aware of the current health status of the island and would engage in conserving and sustaining the diversity and heritage of the archipelago for the benefit of the community.

Bien Cuit

by Peter Kaminsky Thomas Schauer Zachary Golper

One of the world's most celebrated bakers in America shares his insider's secrets to making his delicious, artisanal bread that will have home bakers creating professional-quality products in no time--and inexpensively.Bien Cuit introduces a new approach to a proudly old-fashioned way of baking bread. In the oven of his Brooklyn bakery, Chef Zachary Golper creates loaves that are served in New York's top restaurants and sought by bread enthusiasts around the country. His secret: long, low-temperature fermentation, which allows the dough to develop deep, complex flavors. A thick mahogany-colored crust is his trademark--what the French call bien cuit, or "well baked." This signature style is the product of Golper's years as a journeyman baker, from his introduction to baking on an Oregon farm--where they made bread by candlelight at 1 a.m.--through top kitchens in America and Europe and, finally, into his own bakery in the heart of our country's modern artisanal food scene. Bien Cuit tells the story of Golper's ongoing quest to coax maximum flavor out of one of the world's oldest and simplest recipes. Readers and amateur bakers will reap the rewards of his curiosity and perfectionism in the form of fifty bread recipes that span the baking spectrum from rolls and quick breads to his famous 24-day sourdough starter. This book is an homage to tradition, but also to invention. Golper developed many new recipes for this book, including several "bread quests," in which he brilliantly revives some of New York City's most iconic breads (including Jewish rye, Sicilian lard bread, Kaiser rolls, and, of course, bagels). You will also find palate-pleasing and innovative "gastronomic breads" that showcase his chef's intuition and mastery of ingredients. Golper's defining technique comes at a time when American home cooks are returning to tradition-tested cooking methods and championing the DIY movement. Golper's methods are relatively simple and easy to master, with recipes that require no modern equipment to make at home: just a bowl, an oven, and time--the dough does most of the work.

Bien que te gustó: Un manifiesto para partos insumisos

by Julieta Saulo

Bienestar emocional

by Osho Osho
