Genograms: Assessment and Intervention (3rd edition)
by Monica Mcgoldrick Randy Gerson Sueli PetryWidely used by both family therapists and health care professionals, the genogram is a graphic way of organizing the mass of information gathered during a family assessment and finding patterns in the family system for more targeted treatment. McGoldrick (director, Multicultural Family Institute) explains how to construct a genogram, do a genogram interview, and interpret the results. Genograms of famous families such as the Kennedys, the Fondas, the Freuds, and the Jungs, bring the text to life and help elucidate the principles of family systems theory and systemic interviewing, which form the basis of genogram work. This third edition is updated and expanded. It includes a new color insert and new material on the clinical applications of genograms.
Genomic Negligence: An Interest in Autonomy as the Basis for Novel Negligence Claims Generated by Genetic Technology (Biomedical Law and Ethics Library)
by Victoria ChicoAdvances in genetic technology will lead to novel legal challenges. This book identifies four potential genomic claims which may be articulated as novel negligence challenges. Each of these claims is considered from the perspective of the English courts’ approach to novel kinds of damage. It is argued that these novel genomic claims are unlikely to be favourably received given the current judicial attitude to new forms of damage. However, Victoria Chico argues that the genomic claims could be conceived of as harm because they concern interferences with autonomy. Each claim is considered from the perspective of a hypothetical English negligence system imbued with explicit recognition of the interest in autonomy. Chico examines how recognition of this new form of damage would lead to novel genomic negligence claims being treated in a way which they would not, if considered within traditional parameters of harm in negligence.

Gentle Birth Choices: A Guide to Making Informed Decisions
by Barbara HarperBelieve it or not, birth resulting from a normal pregnancy needn't take place in a hospital. Harper explains why birthing centers and home births, along with other "gentle birth choices," are beneficial to both mother and baby. With a foreword by Robbie Davis Floyd, who wrote Birth as an American Rite of Passage (1992), Gentle Birth Choices also features a history of how childbirth came to be so technological and blasts myths such as why fetal monitors save babies (they don't, very often). Harper also discusses giving birth in water and explores the connection of mind and body during labor and birth. It also contains resources for finding midwives, questions to ask midwives or doctors and other resources in the appendices.
