Book One: The Legend of Ilia
by Nicole Ashley SegdaWho am I? That is the question always on the minds of the seven orphans who were raised together in the Sylvan cottage. War had separated them from their parents and as it once again threatens to consume all of Ilia they must choose the path they will walk. They all must fight in order to survive but only one road leads to a heroic destiny filled with grace, hope, truth and love. The other ways are one in the same for they are replete with empty promises and enticing lies that will only lead to desolation and despair. Only when they embrace the truth can they find the answer to the question of who they really are. Only when they embrace the truth can they find redemption. This is the story of where that journey begins.

Then a new patient arrives, one so private only her first name is given. Impeccably dressed and escorted by two bodyguards, Sandra recounts a frightening series of recurrent nightmares. Elena agrees to consider her case more carefully, convinced that something ominous may be at work here. Book of Jubilees
by Rev George H. SchoddeThis translation by George H. Schodde from the Ethiopic Text has been THE most popular and recommended version by biblical scholars for some thirty years. It gives a better understanding of the work and teachings of both Christ and His disciples as also the writings of the latter their doctrines beliefs and the spirit of New Testament Judaism. This first century commentary on portions of Genesis and Exodus said to be the oldest of all the Midrashim is representative of how the learned contemporaries of Christ made use of the Biblical books for their own peculiar purposes and objective. It gives an extensive account of the fall of the angels and the dire consequences of their sins with the daughters of men. Time is counted in jubilees. The central principle of Jewish orthodoxy was the nomistic principle that obedience to the law in all its real and imagined ramification must be the basis for acceptance before God. Thus there was an impassable gulf fixed between the theological system of the Jews and that of Christ and his disciples. The full contribution of the Book of Jubilees to the New Testament can only be secured through a careful and patient study of every chapter and verse. In order to enable scholars who are not acquainted with the Ethiopic to do this work this present translation is offered.-Print ed.
Book of Numbers
by Joshua CohenA monumental, uproarious, and exuberant novel about the search--for love, truth, and the meaning of Life With The Internet. The enigmatic billionaire founder of Tetration, the world's most powerful tech company, hires a failed novelist, Josh Cohen, to ghostwrite his memoirs. The mogul, known as Principal, brings Josh behind the digital veil, tracing the rise of Tetration, which started in the earliest days of the Internet by revolutionizing the search engine before venturing into smartphones, computers, and the surveillance of American citizens. Principal takes Josh on a mind-bending world tour from Palo Alto to Dubai and beyond, initiating him into the secret pretext of the autobiography project and the life-or-death stakes that surround its publication. Insider tech exposé, leaked memoir-in-progress, international thriller, family drama, sex comedy, and biblical allegory, Book of Numbers renders the full range of modern experience both online and off. Embodying the Internet in its language, it finds the humanity underlying the virtual. Featuring one of the most unforgettable characters in contemporary fiction, Book of Numbers is an epic of the digital age, a triumph of a new generation of writers, and one of those rare books that renew the idea of what a novel can do. Please note that Book of Numbers uses a special pagination system inspired by binary notation: the part number precedes the page number, and is separated from it by a decimal point. Praise for Book of Numbers "Joshua Cohen is the Great American Novelist. . . . Like Pynchon and Wallace, Cohen can write with tireless virtuosity about absolutely everything. . . . Cohen has turned the tables on the Internet: Instead of being reduced by its omniscience, he forces it to serve his imaginative purposes. . . . If John Henry is going to compete with the steam engine, he needs an almost superhuman energy and intelligence of his own--and if any writer has it, it is Joshua Cohen."--Adam Kirsch, Tablet "The next candidate for the Great American Novel . . . David Foster Wallace-level audacious."--Details "[A] monstrous talent and restive, roiling intellect . . . Other recent literary novels have treated the dot-com-mania reboot, its flagship companies, and their 'disruptive' technologies--Pynchon's Bleeding Edge, Dave Eggers's The Circle--but Cohen's is the best."--Bookforum "Cohen returns with a new novel questioning what life is in the digital age. The prolific writer . . . has given us a smart thriller to kick off the season. . . . Inspiring in a way that requires readers to pay attention not just to the words but the book as a form."--Vanity Fair "Reading Cohen's magnum opus is a lot like falling down an Internet wormhole. In Numbers, you'll find an international mystery, a fake memoir, a modern retelling of the biblical Book of Numbers, a sex romp, and a bunch of leaked documents. Think David Foster Wallace meets David Mitchell meets the search history that you just cleared. Beast."--Esquire"An ambitious and inspired attempt at the Great American Internet Novel . . . Cohen's encyclopedic epic is about many things--language, art, divinity, narrative, desire, global politics, surveillance, consumerism, genealogy--but it is above all a standout novel about the Internet."--Publishers Weekly (starred review)From the Hardcover edition.

Booking Passage: Exile and Homecoming in the Modern Jewish Imagination (Contraversions: Critical Studies in Jewish Literature, Culture, and Society #12)
by Sidra DeKoven EzrahiSidra DeKoven Ezrahi's sweeping study of modern Jewish writing is in many ways a long meditation on the thematics of geography in Jewish culture, what she calls the "poetics of exile and return."Until the late nineteenth century, Jews were identified in their own religious and poetic imagination as wanderers and exiles, their sacred center–Jerusalem, Zion–fatefully out of reach. Opening the book with "Jewish Journeys," Ezrahi begins by examining the work of medieval Hebrew poet Yehuda Halevi to chart a journey whose end was envisioned as the sublime realignment of the people with their original center. When the Holy Land became the site of a political drama of return in the nineteenth century, Jewish writing reflected the shift, traced here in the travel fictions of S.Y. Abramovitsh, S.Y. Agnon, and Sholem Aleichem. In "Jewish Geographies" Ezrahi explores aspects of reterritorialization through memory in the post-Holocaust writing of Paul Celan, Dan Pagis, Aharon Appelfeld, I.B. Singer and Philip Roth. Europe, where Jews had dreamed of return, has become the new ruined shrine: The literary pilgrimages of these writers recall familiar patterns of grieving and representation and a tentative reinvention of the diasporic imagination–in America, of course, but, paradoxically, even in Zion.

Books of Definition in Islamic Philosophy: The Limits of Words
by Kiki Kennedy-DayIslamic Philosophy has unusual origins. Originally a hybrid of Greek philosophy and early Islamic theology, its technical language consisted of a number of words translated from the Greek. This book studies how Islamic philosophers of the ninth century AD, such as al-Kindi, al-Farabi and Ibn Sina, developed an indigenous set of terms and concepts. Their Books of Definition influenced the revision of the Arabic language to incorporate these new fields of knowledge.Books of Definition in Islamic Philosophy: The Limits of Words uses the work of these philosophers as a basis from which a comparison with their Greek precedents is enabled. The book presents a framework for incorporating an Islamic and historically contextualised philosophy into a continuum of world philosophers. At the core of this framework is Ibn Sina's Kitab al-hudud which the author has translated into English and situates it in its correct geopolitical framework. In establishing a historical and literary context for the writing and circulation of Ibn Sina's definitions, the book breaks new ground in the integration of Islamic philosophy within a general history of philosophies. This fascinating and comprehensive study will be of interest to scholars and postgraduate students of Islamic Philosophy.
