Über die Normalisierung organisierter Brutalitäten: Eine organisationssoziologische Analyse der Euthanasieanstalt Hadamar (Organisationsstudien)

by Dennis Firkus

Übersetzungspolitiken in der Frühen Neuzeit / Translation Policy and the Politics of Translation in the Early Modern Period (Übersetzungskulturen der Frühen Neuzeit #3)

by Annkathrin Koppers Felix Herberth

The point of departure for this conference volume is the question of what conditions are responsible for whether a translation happens at all. Why are certain texts, images, and sign systems translated while others (must) remain untranslated? And what factors influence the form a translation takes in the process of conveying words, images, or signs from one semiotic, cultural system to another? These questions concern both translation policy – that is, the socio-cultural, economic, and intercultural factors that influence translation processes – and the politics of translation in the specific context of political negotiation processes

Ubuntu and Western Monotheism: An Axiological Investigation (Routledge Studies in the Philosophy of Religion)

by Kirk Lougheed

This book offers a unique comparative study of ubuntu, a dominant ethical theory in African philosophy, and western monotheism. It is the first book to bring ubuntu to bear on the axiology of theism debate in contemporary analytic philosophy of religion. A large motivating force behind this book is to explore the extent to which there is intersubjective ethical agreement and disagreement between ubuntu and Western worldviews like monotheism and naturalism. First, the author assesses the various arguments for anti-theism and pro-theism on the assumption that ubuntu is true. Ubuntu’s communitarian focus might be so different from the Western tradition that it completely changes how we evaluate theism and atheism. Second, the author assesses the advantages and disadvantages of the truth of ubuntu for the world. Third and finally, he assesses the axiological status of faith for both monotheism and ubuntu. Ubuntu and Western Monotheism will be of interest to scholars and advanced students specializing in philosophy of religion, African religion and philosophy, and religious ethics.

UFO...Contact from the Pleiades (45th Anniversary Edition): Volumes I & II

by Brit Elders Lee Elders

In this forty-fifth anniversary edition, a humble, one-armed Swiss farmer named Billy Meier documents his date with destiny with hundreds of photos, videos, and written conversations with extraterrestrial visitors from the Pleiades star cluster. UFO…Contact from the Pleiades offers the inside story of one of the most remarkable and convincing extraterrestrial encounters ever reported. For the first time—forty-five years after their original publication—the two photo-journal volumes of UFO…Contact from the Pleiades are combined in one book for a modern audience, with a new foreword written by Shirley MacLaine, a prologue written by Mexican UFOlogist Jamie Maussan, and a new introduction and preface written by Brit Elders. This photo-journal presents the unique contact case of a Swiss farmer, Billy Meier, who claims to have met with the Pleiadians hundreds of times, compiling many layers of evidence including notes on their conversations, hundreds of photographs, movie footage, audio recordings of the craft, landing tracks of the spaceships, dozens of witnesses, and even metal samples of the craft itself. The quality and amount of evidence was convincing, making this unlike any case previously seen. UFO…Contact from the Pleiades takes the reader back to a time before home computers, digital photography, and easily accessible photo enhancement programs. Yet the evidence—analyzed in laboratories around the world—could not be easily dismissed, and supported the claims of the contactee, Billy Meier. The breathtaking images, profound words of the Pleiadians, and the extensive investigation that spanned seven years are as relevant today as they were forty-five years ago.

The UFO Paradox: The Celestial and Symbolic World of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

by Keith Thompson

• Looks at witnesses&’ reports as well as the theories of skeptics, revealing how UFOs represent a call from the cosmos to expand our understanding of reality• Explores UFO encounters against the backdrop of visionary experience—angelic visitations, near-death experiences, shamanic journeys, and religious miracles• Shares the author&’s UFO discussions with late Harvard psychiatrist John Mack, philanthropist Laurance S. Rockefeller, and astronaut Edgar MitchellIn case after case related to UFO encounters and other unknown aerial phenomena (UAP), the same impasse is reached: testimony from witnesses on one side, dismissive responses from the authorities on the other. In the fertile void of this deadlock, however, lie extraordinary possibilities about the nature of mind and matter, spirit and soul, transforming the UFO into a celestial, metaphysical event.Focusing on the possibilities found by exploring both sides of the UFO debate, veteran UFO observer and reporter Keith Thompson shares profound insights and experiences from his several decades of research, revealing that the UFO phenomenon is decidedly real yet perhaps not what either side of the debate expects. He looks at UFOs as a genuine unknown, from outer space or manifesting from hidden dimensions, as well as the theories of skeptics and debunkers who insist that UFOs can be explained as hoaxes, hallucinations, or misidentified phenomena. He explores the modern flying saucer era against the backdrop of visionary experience—angelic visitations, near-death experiences, shamanic journeys, religious miracles, and fairy tales—and shows how UFOs are simultaneously physical and spiritual, presenting a form of intelligence capable of altering the perceptions of witnesses.Chronicling his own investigations into the UFO mystery, the author details how he introduced the late Harvard psychiatrist John Mack to accounts of alien abduction and how he was invited by philanthropist Laurance S. Rockefeller to lobby then-president Bill Clinton to disclose government-held UFO information. Sharing stories from his friendship with astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, among others, the author recounts discussions on how best to interpret UFOs and non-ordinary phenomena of various kinds.Thompson reveals how the UFO phenomenon ultimately represents a call from the cosmos for humanity to open to greater dimensions of reality and recognize that our understanding of the universe is still far from complete.

UFO Religions

by Christopher Partridge

The spectre of the UFO, as popularized by shows such as The X-Files, has brought an astonishing slant to the face of modern religious practice. But what motivates the fantastical and sometimes sinister beliefs of UFO worshippers? UFO Religions critically examines some of the fascinating issues surrounding UFO worship - abduction narratives, UFO-based interpretations of other religions, the growth of pseudo-sciences purporting to explain UFOs, and the responses of the core scientific community to such claims. Focusing on contemporary global UFO groups including the Raelian Movement, Heaven's Gate, Unarius and the Ansaaru Allah Community, it gives a clear profile of modern UFO controversies and beliefs.

UFOs, Ghosts, And A Rising God: Debunking The Resurrection Of Jesus

by Christopher Hallquist

At the dawn of the 21st century, interest in the origins of Christianity is as strong as ever. However, discussion tends to be dominated by Evangelicals who assume that the Bible is a historically accurate record, and those who would turn Jesus into a New Age guru. There is also a frequent insistence that the questions surrounding the origins of Christianity are beyond rational analysis. In UFOs, Ghosts, and a Rising God, Chris Hallquist examines what investigations of similar upstart cults have revealed, and then applies these revelations to the origins of the world's largest religion.

Uhrautumisen Voima

by Gabriel Agbo

Uhrautumiset ovat tehokkaita. Erittäin tehokkaita! Rikkain mies, vahvin mies, kaikkein siunatuimmat miehet ja naiset, viisaimmat, mahtavin kuningas, kaikkein vaikutusvaltaisimmat profeetat olivat uhrautuvia miehiä ja naisia. He antoivat kaiken, riskeerasivat kaiken kansansa vuoksi, inhimillisyyden ja Jumalan vuoksi saavuttaakseen tavoitteensa ja urotyönsä, josta jopa ikuisuus olisi ylpeä. Jos haluat tulla mahtavaksi, sinun täytyy ensin tulla uhrautuvaksi mieheksi/naiseksi. Kaikki on mahdollista niille, jotka pystyvät maksamaan hinnan. Tulet huomaamaan näiden hyvin paljastavien lukujen - Uhrautumisen Voima, Uhraa Vain Omasi, Kuljen Egyptin Kautta, Maksan Hinnan, Seuraa Minua! He uhrasivat elämänsä suojellakseen muita. Jeesus sanoi, että suurin uhraus ihmiselle on, että antaa oman henkensä toisten vuoksi. Me osoitamme kunnioituksemme heille. He opettavat meille mitä uhrautumisen pitäisi olla. Me ylistämme heidän rohkeuttaan ja äärimmäistä isänmaallisuutta. Tässä, me opimme uskon uhrauksista, ystävällisyydestä, isänmaallisuudesta, rukouksesta, paastoamisesta ja ylistämisest

The Ulama in Contemporary Islam: Custodians of Change (Princeton Studies in Muslim Politics #38)

by Muhammad Qasim Zaman

From the cleric-led Iranian revolution to the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, many people have been surprised by what they see as the modern reemergence of an antimodern phenomenon. This book helps account for the increasingly visible public role of traditionally educated Muslim religious scholars (the `ulama) across contemporary Muslim societies. Muhammad Qasim Zaman describes the transformations the centuries-old culture and tradition of the `ulama have undergone in the modern era--transformations that underlie the new religious and political activism of these scholars. In doing so, it provides a new foundation for the comparative study of Islam, politics, and religious change in the contemporary world. While focusing primarily on Pakistan, Zaman takes a broad approach that considers the Taliban and the `ulama of Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India, and the southern Philippines. He shows how their religious and political discourses have evolved in often unexpected but mutually reinforcing ways to redefine and enlarge the roles the `ulama play in society. Their discourses are informed by a longstanding religious tradition, of which they see themselves as the custodians. But these discourses are equally shaped by--and contribute in significant ways to--contemporary debates in the Muslim public sphere. This book offers the first sustained comparative perspective on the `ulama and their increasingly crucial religious and political activism. It shows how issues of religious authority are debated in contemporary Islam, how Islamic law and tradition are continuously negotiated in a rapidly changing world, and how the `ulama both react to and shape larger Islamic social trends. Introducing previously unexamined facets of religious and political thought in modern Islam, it clarifies the complex processes of religious change unfolding in the contemporary Muslim world and goes a long way toward explaining their vast social and political ramifications.

The 'Ulama in Contemporary Pakistan: Contesting and Cultivating an Islamic Republic

by Mashal Saif

In this book, Mashal Saif explores how contemporary 'ulama, the guardians of religious knowledge and law, engage with the world's first and most populated Islamic nation-state: Pakistan. In mapping these engagements, she weds rich ethnography with rigorous textual analysis and offers insight into some of the most significant and politically charged issues in recent Pakistani history. These include debates over the rights of women; the country's notorious blasphemy laws; the legitimacy of religiously mandated insurrection against the state; sectarian violence; and the place of Shi'as within the Sunni majority nation. These diverse case studies are knit together by the project's most significant contribution: a theoretical framework that understands the 'ulama's complex engagements with their state as a process of both contestation and cultivation of the Islamic Republic by citizen-subjects. This framework provides a new way of assessing state-'ulama relations not only in contemporary Pakistan but also across the Muslim world.

La última cruzada del Papa (The Pope's Last Crusade - Spanish Edition) (The Pope's Last Crusade - Spanish Edition): Cómo un jesuita estadounidense ayudó al

by Peter Eisner

by Casey Diaz

by Lita Donoso

by Marcus J. Borg
