Walking With God Through Painful Circumstances

by Aliyzah Graceson

Sometimes the path of our life is disrupted, and we don't understand what happened. It may be the result of our own action, or it may be the result of someone else&’s choices. Regardless of how, or why it occurred, GOD is able to step into our pain, confusion, or dark situation and move us to the NEXT in our lives – places we would have never moved to because we had no idea they existed, or because we were too comfortable, or because we were too fearful to get up and take a chance. I call them DIVINE DISRUPTIONS. When the enemy thinks he's in control, or thinks he's backed us into a corner, YET GOD steps in to deliver us to something much better than we experienced before. Divine disruptions. I've had many, but some have been much more significant than others. They are so powerful and awesome because ONLY GOD can get the glory for them. Nobody else can!One day, I woke up to what I thought was another normal day, not realizing that by the end of it, my marriage would be shattered, and that I'd find myself in a very dark place. I was in the midst of a storm that suddenly swept me off my feet and carried me down a path I wasn&’t prepared for - the path of divorce. Over the course of a little over a year, I traveled through extremely tough terrain that tested my strength and my faith. Thankfully, the enemy&’s attempts to destroy me were divinely disrupted by God, and God in great mercy, picked up the pieces and used them mightily. While walking with Him, I learned many lessons about myself and others, and I met people and went places that would have never been part of my journey had it not been disrupted.I came to realize that my life was interwoven with these divine disruptions and God interventions, enabling me to be a partaker of His amazing grace in the midst of my troubles. I refer to the aftermath of them as portraits of grace. God&’s word is filled with these portraits in the lives of everyday people like you and me. They&’re visible in the aftermath of real-life ups and downs, and challenges and conflicts as they walked through them with God. Real people experiencing God&’s real grace and God at work in them, and in us, both to will and to do of His good pleasure. So, join me on a journey that includes a window into a very difficult period of my life, and see how God graciously walked me through it. This book is about two imperfect people who made choices that caused the dissolving of their marriage, and God, in His great mercy and grace, picking up the pieces and using them mightily to bless others. It's a portrait of His redeeming power in the midst of destruction, His incredible wisdom to guide, His ability to give perception beyond what&’s apparent, and His grace that is truly sufficient for any thorn that may be lodged within. And while the backdrop of my story is betrayal and divorce, I believe the lessons I learned can be applied to your story as well. I found Him to be a Mighty Counselor and an excellent Coach, and I&’m sure you will too.

Walking With the Green Man: Father of the Forest, Spirit of Nature

by Bob Curran

Almost since the dawn of time, the image of the Green Man—the carven enigmatic head surrounded by leaves and foliage—has both intrigued and mystified viewers and folklorists alike. Appearing in churches, taverns, and even on stately buildings, the carving seems shrouded in supernatural obscurity. Is it merely a fertility symbol, or is it something much deeper, which calls for a response from us all? Though it seems a predominantly Celtic icon, does the concept of the Green Man also appear in other places and in other cultures? What is its relevance for the world today? In an absorbing new book, Dr. Bob Curran traces the many strands that make up this enigmatic image. Tracing its origins from prehistoric times, he explores its significance in the medieval world and discusses its development in the modern world. He also investigates the image’s psychological appeal, which has allowed it to continue down through the ages, and, pulling from a variety of sources, its impact upon other cultures in various parts of the world. From heroic archetypes such as Robin Hood to Demigods such as Herne the Hunter; from the King of the Woods to the Jack in the Green, Walking With the Green Man examines the interconnection of man and Nature throughout history. Whether as a man amongst the trees, a man of the trees, or a symbol of Nature used to express secrets and solidarity, the Green Man’s visage is traced throughout lands and cultures. Walking With the Green Man will appeal to all those who are interested in the image of the Green Man as an example of symbolic art, as well as to those who are interested in folklore and the interplay between folklore and culture. It is a fascinating study, which not only examines the history of the icon but also its development within human perception.

Walking from East to West: God in the Shadows

by Ravi Zacharias R. S. Sawyer

Ravi Zacharias was born in India and has literally moved from the East to the West and the West to the East and repeated the cycle again and again to answer skeptics’ questions about whether God is alive, who Jesus is, what is truth, and whether we can really find absolutes. Ravi has spoken of his own journey only in bits and pieces in his other books and talks. It is a journey that has led him beyond his family and culture into a revelation that replaced pantheism with monotheism, and into a relationship with a God the vast majority of his people do not worship. From this new understanding birthed in him by the founder of Christianity, Ravi has gone forward to teach as one of our generation’s great apologists. A life lived in Christ is the greatest argument of all for the living God. Ravi urges the reader to look at the lives that have turned the hearts of people into movements for Christ. In the first three centuries of the church, the Apostles and followers like Polycarp and Tertullian and Origen demonstrated with their lives the truth of the resurrected Christ. A whole line of witnesses from every generation succeeded these who walked in the footsteps of Jesus, with names like Augustine, Catherine of Sienna, Bernard of Clairvaux, Luther, and Wesley leading the procession. But history begins on an individual level. Ravi shows readers his life, in its successes and failures, in its existence in the East and in the West, and in his attempts to bring the truth of Christ to those in any culture who don’t know him. The Hebrew poet has said that a life rich in experiences is a life from which others can learn. This book is about Ravi’s journey, from meaninglessness to the abundant joy of Christ, from East to West and back again, in the all-consuming passion of letting the world know about true freedom, and in whom that freedom is found.

We’ll begin to understand why his first Jewish disciples abandoned everything to follow him, to live out his commands. Our modern society, with its individualism and materialism, is very different than the tight-knit, family-oriented setting Jesus lived and taught in. What wisdom can we glean from his Eastern, biblical attitude toward life? How can knowing Jesus within this context shed light on his teachings for us today? In Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus we’ll journey back in time to eavesdrop on the conversations that arose among the rabbis of Jesus’ day, and consider how hearing Rabbi Jesus with the ears of a first-century disciple can bring new meaning to our faith. And we’ll listen to Jewish thinkers through the ages, discovering how ideas that germinated in Jesus’ time have borne fruit over time. Doing so will yield fresh, practical insights for following our Rabbi’s teachings from a Jewish point of view.
