Every Good Endeavour: Connecting Your Work to God's Plan for the World

by Timothy Keller

In today's increasingly competitive and insecure economic environment, we often question the reason for work: why am I doing this? Why is it so hard? And what can I do about it? Work may seem just a means to an end: we do it to earn the money to enjoy life outside the workplace. Here, Timothy Keller argues that God's plan is radically more ambitious: he actually created us to work. We are to work together to make the world a better place, to help each other, and so to find purpose for our lives. Our faith should enhance our work, and our work should develop our faith. With deep insight, Timothy Keller draws on essential and relevant biblical wisdom to address our questions about work. There is grace available if we have taken the wrong attitude, idolising money and using our careers to glorify ourselves rather than God. This book provides the foundations for a work-life balance where we can thrive both personally and professionally. Keller shows how through excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity and passion in the workplace we can impact society for good.Developing a better attitude to work releases us to serve others humbly, to worship God everyday, and leaves us deeply fulfilled.

Every Move You Make: Bodymind Exercises To Transform Your Life

by Nikki Winston

Change the way you move . . . and you can change the way you feel, the way you act, and the way you’re perceived. That’s the promise of EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE: Bodymind Exercises to Transform Your Life. We’ve long known that changing our mental or emotional focus can help change our physical state (think of stress management for patients at risk for heart attacks or visualizations to improve athletic performance). It’s themind-to-body connection, and it’s something that’s readily accepted in today’s world. Less well explored is the other side of the equation: the relationship between body and mind: Change your physical state and you can change your mental or emotional focus; change the way you move in deliberate, carefully prescribed ways—that is, repattern your body—and you can repattern your mind, emotions, and spirit in ways that let you live your life more fully, more authentically, and more joyously. Every Move You Make gives you practical tools in the form of ten basic movements that help stimulate and support changes you need to make your life work better. Also included are several partner exercises to improve the quality of your relationships. The movements are easy and relaxing to do, and are illustrated in photographs throughout the book. Chapters address different aspects of life: self-image, stress, career, creativity, relationships, sexuality, anxieties, and compulsions. You’ll identify with the case studies of real people that Nikki Winston has worked with—all of whom have successfully made the changes described.

What kind of guy . . . Can school you on complicated investment strategies but keeps sending you viruses on Facebook? Arrives at your 40's Party in period clothes with a martini shaker, instead of in an Adidas sweatsuit with a case of malt liquor? Has lots of baggage but really nice luggage? See Chapter 9. .

Every Teacher's Little Book of Wisdom

by Bob Algozzine Kate Algozzine

This wee book is full of inspiring ideas, and good pointers on how to be the best teacher you can be. Written by two noted Special Educators these pointers apply to any teacher from Nursery school to a Ph.D. adviser. Worth the look if you are or want to be a teacher. "People with disabilities are just like everybody else. They have dreams, goals, and aspirations just like their neighbors and peers. When they are children, they deserve the same educational experiences as their neighbors and peers: Good teachers who hold high expectations for success; good teachers who know how to manage classrooms to maximize learning opportunities for all students; and, good teachers who teach them to read, to do mathematics, or to do anything else they need or want to learn. Nothing about having a disability limits an individual's desire to learn. Nothing about having a disability should limit the willingness of a teacher to teach. Good teaching is good teaching and there are no boundaries on where it can occur and who will profit from it. We believe this and try to make it happen whenever we teach. Now it is up to you."

Every Time I Find the Meaning of Life, They Change It: Wisdom of the Great Philosophers on How to Live

by Daniel Klein

"Every time I find the meaning of life, they change it." The words of Reinhold Niebuhr provide the title and set the tone for what is a wryly humorous look at some of the great philosophical pronouncements on the most important question we can face.Daniel Klein's philosophical journey began fifty years ago with just this conundrum; he began an undergraduate degree in philosophy at Harvard University to glean some clue as to what the answer could be. Now in his seventies, Klein looks back at the wise words of the great philosophers and considers how his own life has measured up. Told with the same brilliantly dry sense of humour that made Travels with Epicurus a Sunday Times bestseller, Every Time I Find the Meaning of Life, They Change It is a pithy, dry, and eminently readable commentary on one of the most profound subjects there i

Every Tool's a Hammer: Life Is What You Make It

by Adam Savage

In this New York Times bestselling &“imperative how-to for creativity&” (Nick Offerman), Adam Savage—star of Discovery Channel&’s Mythbusters—shares his golden rules of creativity, from finding inspiration to following through and successfully making your idea a reality.Every Tool&’s a Hammer is a chronicle of my life as a maker. It&’s an exploration of making, but it&’s also a permission slip of sorts from me to you. Permission to grab hold of the things you&’re interested in, that fascinate you, and to dive deeper into them to see where they lead you. Through stories from forty-plus years of making and molding, building and breaking, along with the lessons I learned along the way, this book is meant to be a toolbox of problem solving, complete with a shop&’s worth of notes on the tools, techniques, and materials that I use most often. Things like: In Every Tool There Is a Hammer—don&’t wait until everything is perfect to begin a project, and if you don&’t have the exact right tool for a task, just use whatever&’s handy; Increase Your Loose Tolerance—making is messy and filled with screwups, but that&’s okay, as creativity is a path with twists and turns and not a straight line to be found; Use More Cooling Fluid—it prolongs the life of blades and bits, and it prevents tool failure, but beyond that it&’s a reminder to slow down and reduce the friction in your work and relationships; Screw Before You Glue—mechanical fasteners allow you to change and modify a project while glue is forever but sometimes you just need the right glue, so I dig into which ones will do the job with the least harm and best effects. This toolbox also includes lessons from many other incredible makers and creators, including: Jamie Hyneman, Nick Offerman, Pixar director Andrew Stanton, Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro, artist Tom Sachs, and chef Traci Des Jardins. And if everything goes well, we will hopefully save you a few mistakes (and maybe fingers) as well as help you turn your curiosities into creations. I hope this book serves as &“creative rocket fuel&” (Ed Helms) to build, make, invent, explore, and—most of all—enjoy the thrills of being a creator.
