Available Means: An Anthology Of Women's Rhetoric
by Joy Ritchie Kate RonaldAvailable Means offers seventy women rhetoricians—from ancient Greece to the twenty-first century—a room of their own for the first time. Editors Joy Ritchie and Kate Ronald do so in the feminist tradition of recovering a previously unarticulated canon of women’s rhetoric. Women whose voices are central to such scholarship are included here, such as Aspasia (a contemporary of Plato’s), Margery Kempe, Margaret Fuller, and Ida B. Wells. Added are influential works on what it means to write as a woman—by Virginia Woolf, Adrienne Rich, Nancy Mairs, Alice Walker, and Hélène Cixous. Public “manifestos” on the rights of women by Hortensia, Mary Astell, Maria Stewart, Sarah and Angelina Grimké, Anna Julia Cooper, Margaret Sanger, and Audre Lorde also join the discourse.

But Available Means searches for rhetorical tradition in less obvious places, too. Letters, journals, speeches, newspaper columns, diaries, meditations, and a fable (Rachel Carson’s introduction to Silent Spring) also find places in this room. Such unconventional documents challenge traditional notions of invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, and blur the boundaries between public and private discourse. Included, too, are writers whose voices have not been heard in any tradition. Ritchie and Ronald seek to “unsettle” as they expand the women’s rhetorical canon.
Arranged chronologically, Available Means is designed as a classroom text that will allow students to hear women speaking to each other across centuries, and to see how women have added new places from which arguments can be made. Each selection is accompanied by an extensive headnote, which sets the reading in context. The breadth of material will allow students to ask such questions as “How might we define women’s rhetoric? How have women used and subverted traditional rhetoric?”
A topical index at the end of the book provides teachers a guide through the rhetorical riches. Available Means will be an invaluable text for rhetoric courses of all levels, as well as for women’s studies courses.

Avengers: Endgame The Pirate Angel, The Talking Tree, and Captain Rabbit
by Steve BehlingWHACK! When a mystery man lands smack-dab on the front of their ship while flying through space, the Guardians of the Galaxy bring him aboard to take a closer look. Is he an angel? With that eye patch, could he be . . . a pirate? Turns out it's Thor, the God of Thunder, and he's just as confused by the Guardians as they are by him: a rabbit captaining a ship, and a talking tree he can understand? As the most unlikely team this side of the galaxy, the pirate angel, the talking tree, and captain rabbit head off to Nidavellir in hopes of tracking down the dwarves—the only ones who can forge a weapon worthy enough to be wielded by Thor and strong enough to defeat Thanos. Alternating between their trip to Nidavellir and Rocket's journal entries, this is the perfect lead-up to Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame.

Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook - General (FAA Handbooks)
by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/Aviation Supplies & AcademicsThe Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–General (FAA-H-8083-30A) was developed as one of a series of three handbooks for persons preparing for mechanic certification with airframe or powerplant ratings, or both. It is intended that this handbook will provide basic information on principles, fundamentals, and technical procedures in the subject matter areas common to both the airframe and powerplant ratings. Emphasis in this volume is on theory and methods of application.

The handbook is designed to aid students enrolled in a formal course of instruction preparing for FAA certification as a maintenance technician as well as for current technicians who wish to improve their knowledge. This volume contains information on mathematics, aircraft drawings, weight and balance, aircraft materials, processes and tools, physics, electricity, inspection, ground operations, and FAA regulations governing the certification and work of maintenance technicians. New to this volume is a section addressing how successful aviation maintenance technicians incorporate knowledge and awareness of ethics, professionalism and human factors in the field.
Because there are so many different types of airframes and powerplants in use today, it is reasonable to expect that differences exist in the components and systems of each. To avoid undue repetition, the practice of using representative systems and units is implemented throughout the handbook. Subject matter treatment is from a generalized point of view, and should be supplemented by reference to manufacturers’ manuals or other textbooks if more detail is desired. This handbook is not intended to replace, substitute for, or supersede official regulations or the manufacturers’ instructions.
The companion handbooks to Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–General (FAA-H-8083-30A) are the Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–Airframe (FAA-H-8083-31 (as amended)), and the Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–Powerplant (FAA-H-8083-32 (as amended)).
