13 Days of Summer
by Stephanie Kate StrohmThis unforgettable and fun novel follows three best friends and one hot hitchhiker entering their summer road trip era, it's all about that reputation. . . It&’s the summer after senior year of high school for Carson, Noemi, and Eleanor, and they intend to live it up while they can. What could be more epic than a cross-country road trip to see Taylor Swift in concert? Along the way, the friends pick up a mysterious and charming guy who is stranded at a rest stop (is that a James Dean daydream look in his eyes?). As she and Carson hit it off, Carson gets a crash course in love-at-first sight. But as attractions grow, so, too, do tensions among the friends. Will the group make it to the concert with relationships intact? Or is there too much bad blood? At its core, a novel about the power and possibility of friendships, sprinkled with just enough romance and set against the ultimate summer playlist, this lighthearted read is both a quintessential teen romance and coming-of-age novel that will stay with readers long after Taylor sings her last note.
Finding Happy: A User's Guide to Your Life, with Lessons from Mine
by Peter SamuelsonA master class for every Gen Z and Millennial to Find Happy in a dizzying worldAlmost everyone looks back on their youth and thinks, &“I wish I knew then what I know now.…&” This is a book for young adults who want to know right now what it is so many wish they had known back then. What is happy, anyway? Where do you find it? Finding Happy is for young adults starting their adult journey, and for those well into theirs who have not yet sighted land. Ultimately, it&’s about how best to channel this glorious life we are each privileged to enjoy and to make it truly happy. Finding Happy is filled with gripping adventures and misadventures that demonstrate just how possible the seemingly impossible often is, from daredevil filmmaking in Africa and Asia to making daunting rules work for you, to earning a full college scholarship after being completely unable to answer the entrance exam essay question…to climbing down a hundred-foot pipe shaft at 3 a.m. to rescue a kitten, with no plan for how to climb back up. It is about how best to seize the day, which risks are brave and which foolish, about roadblocks and solutions, learning from leaders and finding your own secret sauce. Samuelson explains how to find your compass and persuade others to help you. He shows how to live your passion, make a living, take off your mask, build your best place in the universe, and find your own unique and personal Happy.

by James GregoryThe life story of the &“Funniest Man in America&” as only he could tell it.James Gregory is beloved by millions…but the story of his astonishing rise to success has never been told—until now.One of the most successful nightclub and theater comedians in America started out a long way from the stage, in the tiny farming community of Lithonia, Georgia. His parents paid the doctor for his delivery with &“a bushel of beans and a peck of tomatoes.&”Before he became &“The Funniest Man in America,&” James was a successful salesman of everything from encyclopedias to log homes. His philosophy: take care of yourself so nobody has to take care of you. When he started over as a comedian, this commitment to hard work and honest dealing would be the key to his &“business&” of comedy. James loves working people—because that&’s what he is, too.James was quickly discovered—not just in the South, but across America—by folks who love down-home, wholesome humor. He became the court jester of country music royalty, too, from Randy Travis to &“Whispering&” Bill Anderson to the Possum himself, George Jones.Whether it&’s entertaining our troops in the Persian Gulf after 9/11, working the road with greats like Steven Wright and Jay Leno, or facing a heart-stopping emergency that sent him into a coma, James has squeezed a dozen lifetimes into a half-century of comedy. This book is the best James Gregory story yet—as only he can tell it.

After Disney: Toil, Trouble, and the Transformation of America's Favorite Media Company
by Neil O'BrienThe untold succession struggle at Walt Disney Productions following the death of its founder, and the generational transformation which led to the birth of the modern multibillion-dollar animation industry.Walt Disney left behind big dreams when he died in 1966. Perhaps none was greater than the hope that his son-in-law, Ron Miller, would someday run his studio. Under Miller&’s leadership, Disney expanded into new frontiers: global theme parks, computer animation, cable television, home video, and video games. Despite these innovations, Ron struggled to expand the Disney brand beyond its midcentury image of wholesome family entertainment, even as times and tastes evolved. Tensions between Miller and Walt&’s nephew, Roy E. Disney, threatened to destroy the company, leading Wall Street &“Gordon Gekko&” types to come after Mickey Mouse. At the same time, the aging Animation Department—once the core of Walt&’s business—was one memo away from shutting down forever. Rather, thanks to the radical efforts of Walt&’s veterans to recruit and nurture young talent, it was revived by this sudden influx of artists who would go on to revolutionize the film industry. Additionally, this new generation would prove over time that animation was so much more than just kids&’ stuff—it was a multibillion dollar industry. This is the upstairs-downstairs story of the executives and animators who clashed and collaborated to keep America&’s most storied company alive during the most uncertain period in its one hundred year history.

Texas: An Oral History of Daytime TV’s Answer to Dallas
by Tom Lisanti Caryn RichmanTexas: An Oral History of Daytime’s Answer to Dallas focuses on Procter & Gamble and NBC’s 1980 spin-off from Another World. It was the first soap to debut in the one-hour format and set in a real city, Houston. Receiving star billing and leading the cast was Another World’s popular Beverlee McKinsey as Iris Bancroft. Having such high hopes for their new soap, Fred Silverman, the head of NBC, boasted to the press that it would be so successful that a move to prime time would be warranted. However, Texas turned out not to be the Dallas of daytime, as predicted, for several reasons and only lasted two and a half years. It went through four head writing regimes and two executive producers with various levels of success. Even so, the show built up a core audience that found it to be quirky and fun. And despite its short run, the soap is beloved to this day. This book is a collection of memories and stories from actors, including Kin Shriner, Terri Garber, Catherine Hickland, Harley Kozak, Pamela Long, John McCafferty, Caryn Richman, Tom Wiggin, and Michael Woods; creator and head writer Joyce Corrington; and various writers; directors; set designers; NBC network executives; and family members. Brutally honest, they share the good, the bad, and the outrageous with regard to what went into producing this one-hour soap, five days a week at its Brooklyn studio. Connecting their observations and anecdotes are plot synopses; tales of Procter & Gamble and network interference; and how General Hospital helped lead to Texas’s downfall. The book will be illustrated with publicity stills; print ads; and behind-the-scenes photos and original set sketches from some of the participants’ private collections.
