nattiq and the Land of Statues: A Story from the Arctic
by Barbara LandryIn this charming story that includes words in Inuktitut, a ringed seal returns to the Arctic with stories of discovery and friendship. A ringed seal, known in Inuktitut as ᓇᑦᑎᖅ nattiq, has returned to his Arctic home after a long journey south. His friends — a polar bear, caribou, raven, walrus and narwhal — gather round to hear about his trip. “What did you see beyond our land?” shouts the polar bear. ᓇᑦᑎᖅ nattiq describes the amazing sights he has seen — from crystal clear waters full of giant icebergs to the tundra in full summertime bloom to strange, tall statues, far to the south. The statues swayed in the autumn breeze, howled when winter storms set in and opened their arms to nesting birds in the spring. “They can never come and visit us,” ᓇᑦᑎᖅ nattiq explains to his friends, and so he plans to return south every year to tell them stories from the Arctic. Inspired by her travels, Barbara Landry has written an imaginative story about discovery and friendship. Martha Kyak brings her familiarity with the North to the stunning illustrations. Includes a glossary of Inuktitut words. ninitohtênân / We Listen (Nohkom series #3)
by Caitlin Dale NicholsonThe third book in the Nôhkom series, in Cree and English, tells a story about gathering leaves for Labrador tea, while listening in different ways. A child, her family and her friend have arrived at their favorite picnic spot by the lake, but before they eat lunch Nôhkom suggests they pick leaves for Labrador tea. Once among the trees, Nôhkom pauses for a moment to listen, and the others do too. Nôhkom prays, the girls take their turn, then Nôhkom shows them where to find the leaves. Nôhkom and Mom rest after harvesting, but the girls opt for a swim in the lake ... though they’re quite happy to warm up afterwards with freshly brewed Labrador tea. And when it’s time for the picnic, the girls take another turn at listening. Beautifully rendered paintings in acrylic on canvas show the family outing. Includes a recipe for Labrador tea as well as a salve made from Labrador Tea leaves. ¡A mis hijos los educo yo! / "I Teach my Children": Sobre sexo sin mentiras.
by Laura Pérez Porras¿Cómo debo hablarles de sexualidad a mis hijos? ¿A qué edad debo comenzar a enseñarles? - Sixto Porras. tomado del prólogo The author empowers parents by giving them the tools for an appropriate children sex education from a Christian perspective. It breaks taboos and expands trust in the family. It is not surprising children are having more startling questions about sex at this time in age than any other. The overwhelming vast social media outlets are bombarding children with the wrong concept of sex and intimacy. The main purpose of this book is to equipped parents with the necessary tools to deal with sex and the main themes of faith with a close and proper language approach for the children. Only by removing the taboos and allowing us to establish a healthy communication in the home, we can empower our children, without exposing them to prejudices and complexes. Sexuality is a day-to-day issue, it is beyond religions and beyond sexual relationships.
