Addressing the Needs of an Aging Population Through Health Professions Education: Proceedings Of A Workshop
by Board on Global Health Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Health and Medicine DivisionThe National Academies Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education hosted a Fall 2022 workshop series to explore the various needs of an aging population and an ideal health workforce with the numbers and skillset to match those needs. Discussions included the composition of the intended health workforce, training requirements for each level of care provider, who would provide the training and education, and in what setting the training would take place. Given these considerations and learner reluctance to work with elder adults, implementation science was introduced as a path forward. Implementation science is the study of methods and strategies that facilitate the use of evidence-based practice and research into regular use by practitioners and policymakers. This proceedings document summarizes workshop discussions.

Addressing the Sexual Rights of Older People: Theory, Policy and Practice
by Catherine Barrett Sharron HinchliffThere is growing evidence that the sexual rights of older people are not being met. One reason, perhaps the main reason, relates to the way that old age is viewed. In many cultures, being old is associated with decline and disease, which positions older people as dependent and powerless. Furthermore, an absence of positive or celebratory discourses around older people’s sexuality is particularly striking. The book addresses a gap in research and policy. Using an adaptation of the Declaration of Sexual Rights from the World Association of Sexual Health, it provides readers with an innovative and evidence-based framework for achieving the sexual rights of older people. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, it explores the cultural and social locations of old age and its intersections with sexual orientation, gender identity, and intersex status. Key themes include stigma, silencing, invisibility, prejudice, discrimination, and a lack of information, awareness, and understanding. Addressing the Sexual Rights of Older People: Theory, Policy and Practice is a text for academics, health professionals, social professionals, service providers, and policy-makers. It is a timely and insightful collection which suggests ways to apply the sexual rights framework, raise awareness, and engage communities in constructing strategies for reform.

Addressing: Leveraging the Seductive Power of Interpreters--Bringing Radical Innovations to Market
by Roberto VergantiAfter you have defined a new vision for a product family in the research phase of design-driven innovation, you must effectively propose that vision and product to the market. There are many known challenges. People may be confused by a radical new proposal, even though they may eventually convert and become passionate about it. Design-driven innovation implies a change in socially accepted paradigms: if it is successful, the market--and consumption culture--will not be the same. Thus, rather than simply launch the product and wait for customers to embrace it, a firm needs to support this paradigm shift through proactive investments aimed at facilitating the understanding, assimilation, and adoption of the new meaning that the product proposes. This chapter looks at how firms, both big and small, can leverage the insights and influence of the very designers who worked on a game-changing product or service to bring these radical innovations to market. This chapter was originally published as chapter 9 of "Design-Driven Innovation: Changing the Rules of Competition by Radically Innovating What Things Mean."
