Shriman Yogi - Novel: श्रीमान योगी - कादंबरी
by Ranjit Desaiरणजित देसाईंची महत्त्वाकांक्षी कादंबरी म्हणजे ‘श्रीमानयोगी’. शिवाजी महाराजांसारख्या अष्टपैलू, अष्टावधानी युगपुरुषाची व्यक्तिरेखा उभी करणे हे प्रचंड मोठे आव्हानच. शिवाजी महाराजांच्या जन्मापासून त्यांच्या मृत्यूपर्यंत इतिहासकारांचे दृष्टिकोन वेगळे. अशा अडचणीच्या वाटातून मार्ग काढून ललित वाङ्‌मयाच्या रूपात महाराजांना साकार करण्याचे काम जिकरीचे, त्यातून शिवाजी माहाराजांची ही व्यक्तिरेखा फार मोठी आहे. तिचे शेकडो पैलू आहेत. शिवचरित्र हे कलावंतांपुढे कालातीत राहणारे असे आव्हान आहे. मराठी ऐतिहासिक कादंबरीच्या प्रांतात महाराजांना मराठी ललित वाङ्‌मयात वास्तवरूपात प्रथम चित्रित करण्याचे श्रेय निश्चितच रणजित देसाई यांचे आहे. श्रीमानयोगी वाचतानाही महाराजांची जी प्रतिमा नजरेसमोर उभी राहते. त्यातून इतिहास व काल्पनिकता वेगळी काढता येत नाही. ही कादंबरी लिहीताना देसाईंनी शिवाजीराजांबद्दलचा इतिहास, कल्पित दंतकथा, आख्यायिका या सार्‍यांचा वापर केला आहे. भारताच्या किंबहुना जगाच्या इतिहासाचे अवलोकन केले तर नव्याने राज्य निर्माण करणारे थोर राजे, सेनानी आपणांस आढळतील. त्या प्रत्येक प्रसंगात नेभळट राजास पदच्युत करून आपले राज्य प्रस्थापित केलेले आढळते. येथे निर्मात्याला राज्याची सर्व व्यवस्था, सेना हातात आयती मिळालेली आहे व त्याच्या जोरावर प्रस्थापित राज्य उधळून जेत्याने स्वतःचे राज्य स्थापन केले. महाराजांच्या बाबतीत त्यांनी शुन्यातून सुरवात केली आहे. चार बलाढ्य सत्तांचे राज्य कोरत महाराजांनी आपले स्वराज्य उभारण्यास सुरवात केली. या सत्ता बलाढ्य होत्या. राजनीतिज्ञ, युद्धशास्त्रात पारंगत होत्या. अशा शत्रूंशी अखंड झुंजत महाराजांनी स्वतःचे राज्य निर्माण केले. असे कर्तृत्त्व दाखवणारा दुसरा राजा इतिहासात आढळत नाही. इथेच महाराजांच्या व्यक्तिमत्त्वाचे अलौकिकत्त्व सिद्ध होते. प्रजाहितदक्ष राजा, थोर सेनानी, मुत्सद्दी, धर्मसहिष्णू या सर्व विशेषणांमधील महाराजांच्या तोडीची दुसरी व्यक्ती आढळत नाही. महाराजांचे राजकीय कर्तृत्व, संघर्ष, वेदना यांचे सुयोग्य प्रकटीकरण ‘श्रीमानयोगी’ मध्ये झालेले आहे. या कादंबरीत महाराजांच्या व्यक्तित्त्वाचा होणारा विकास क्रमाक्रमाने उदात्ततेकडे घडत गेलेला आढळून येतो.
