Fluent in Persian and Arabic, Bell worked for the British government in Cairo during World War I. She contributed to the construction of the Iraqi state in 1921, as well as the National Museum of Iraq. Bell died in Baghdad on July 12, 1926. Gertrude Bell “Desert Queen.” She is also known as Gertrude of Arabia. Killed herself with sleeping pills in Baghdad in 1926, days before the inauguration of Faisal’s government, it was not because she had failed. Her work was done, the king no longer needed her and she had fallen into a deep depression. The monarchy she helped build lasted until 1958, longer than some of its creators ever expected

Kumbhojkarकित्येकांच्या मते बुद्धिविलासाहून तत्त्वज्ञान वेगळे करता येत नाही. ज्ञान घटनांबाबतचे असो की तार्किक संबंधांबाबतचे असो ते निश्चितरीत्या प्रस्थापित करण्याच्या पद्धती तत्त्वज्ञ वापरू शकत नाही असे त्यांना वाटते; जी भाषा पडताळून पाहाता येत नाही अशा भाषेत तत्त्वज्ञानाला बोलावे लागते. त्यानुसार ज्यावेळी तात्त्विक प्रश्न सोडविण्याची तार्किक साधने उपलब्ध नसतात त्यावेळी तत्त्वज्ञान बुद्धिविलासी स्वरूप घेते. आणि ही अवस्था तात्पुरती असते. परंतु तत्त्वज्ञानाला वैज्ञानिक रीतीने हात घालता येतो व ही रीत नेहमीच उपलब्ध होती अशी लेखकाची भूमिका आहे. अशा परिस्थितीतून वैज्ञानिक तत्त्वज्ञान उदयास आले आणि पूर्वीच्या काळी ज्या प्रश्नांची उत्तरे केवळ अंदाजाने दिली जात ते प्रश्न सोडविण्याची साधने आजच्या विज्ञानामुळे वैज्ञानिक तत्त्वज्ञाच्या हाती आली आहेत. थोडक्यात म्हणजे तत्त्वज्ञानाने बुद्धिविलासाकडून विज्ञानाकडे वाटचाल केली आहे हे दाखविण्याच्या उद्देशाने प्रस्तुत पुस्तक लिहिले आहे.

'बाप रे! काय बर्फगार पाणी! मृत्यू येताना शरीर असंच थंड पडतं.?' बी. जे. मध्ये असताना अनेकांचे मृत्यू त्यानं जवळून पाहिले होते; पण आज आपणहून मृत्यूला जवळ करायचं ठरवलं होतं. डोळे मिटले. एकेक पाऊल पुढे टाकत होता. पाणी गुडघ्यापर्यंत आलं. 'ये, मृत्यो… ये…' आणखीन दोन पावलं टाकली की, सगळं संपलं. अजून एक पाऊल पुढं पडलं. दुसरा पाय पुडं गेला. खालची फरशी संपली. बस्स! आता खोल-खोल जायचं. डोळ्यांपुढे काळी वर्तुळं गरगर फिरू लागली. 'अरे! मी काय बघतोय हे? डोळे मिटलेत तरी काय दिसतंय मला... खोल… खोल… खोल… कोण बोलवतंय मला? गंगामाई? स्मृती? छे! मृत्यूच? हो, मृत्यूच! हे बघ, आलोच मी!'

The queen falls in love with him. She thinks he is the prince. Later she goes and marries the prince because Vishal and Devdutta were same looking. Vishal was blind by one eye and Devdutta brings a medicine and Vishal sees again. Devdutta leaves the kingdom and goes far away for the sake of his friend. After this, the Vetal ends the story and asks Vikram one question. Vikram opens his mouth as usual and Vetal goes and hangs itself upside down.
