by Narayan Dharap“त्यानं आपले हात पसरले. नीलम त्याच्या कह्यात उभी राहिली. तिच्याभोवती त्याचे अजस्र हात एकत्र आले व तिच्या तोंडून शब्द निघायच्या आत एक दोन पावलं पुढे टाकून त्यानं खालच्या अंधाऱ्या गर्तेत उडी घेतली. शहराचे दिवे गरगरत वर येत आहेत असं नीलमला वाटलं. भीतीनं तिचा श्वास घशात अडकला. तिच्या तोंडून किंकाळी अर्धवटच निघाली… पण त्या दिव्यांची गती मंदावली, थांबली. ते दिवे तिच्या पायाखाली चक्राकार फिरले व दूरदूर जाऊ लागले. जयेंद्रनं आपले प्रचंड पंख मागं उघडले असले पाहिजेत. त्या शक्तिमान पंखाच्या प्रत्येक झडपेबरोबर ती वरवर चालली होती. प्रथम शहराचा विस्तीर्ण, मनोरम प्रदीपित देखावा तिच्या खाली पसरला; पण तोही लहान लहान होत गेला. इवल्याशा पांढऱ्या अभ्रीच्या कवचातून ते वर आले. त्यांच्या पायाखाली ते कापसाच्या रुजाम्यासारखे पसरले होते. त्यांच्याभोवती फक्त रात्रीचा थंड वारा आणि हिऱ्यासारख्या चांदण्या होत्या. नीलमला वाटलं हा विलक्षण आनंद आपल्या मनात सामावणार नाही. डोळे मिटून तिनं त्याच्या छातीवर डोकं टेकवलं. त्या कठीण आवरणातून तिच्या कानांना त्याचे छातीचे अति संथ ठोके जाणवत होते. ‘ठक्… ठक्…! ठक्… ठक्...’
Odyssey: ओदिसी
by Shamrao Nilkanth Oakग्रीक महाकवी होमरलिखित ‘Odyssey’ या काव्याचा कै. शामराव निळकंठ ओक यांनी केलेला मराठी अनुवाद साहित्य संस्कृती मंडळातर्फे तो प्रकाशित केला गेला आहे. इलियद व ओदिसी ही एकाच कथावस्तूची जुळी रूपे आहेत. तो विषय म्हणजे त्रोजन युद्ध आणि त्यानंतरच्या घटना. पाश्चात्य मनाचे पहिले दर्शन साहित्यात होते ते याच दोन महाकाव्यांत असे म्हणावयास हरकत नाही. अगोदरच्या लोककथा, वीरचरित्रे, पुराणे इत्यादी सामग्री घेऊन होमरने एक इतिहासवजा कथानक आपल्या महाकाव्यांत गुंफले आहे. कृतीचे स्वरूप जरी महाकाव्याचे असले तरी इलिअद हे एक शोकनाट्य व ओदिसी ही एक कादंबरी आहे असे म्हटल्यास त्यांचे स्वरूप अधिक स्पष्ट होईल. ओदिसीचे संविधानक सुसंघटित, तिच्यामधील व्यक्तींच्या मनोव्यापाराचे चित्रण वेधक आणि त्यांचे परस्परसंबंध रंजक असल्याने ही वीरगाथा हळूहळू परिणत होत गेलेल्या आजच्या कादंबरीची आद्यजननी मानता येईल; आणि जरी ती इतकी प्राचीन असली तरी आजही ती एक कादंबरी म्हणून उत्कृष्ट ठरेल.
