As the ability to obtain goods and services from others depends on the context — what functions as money in a time and place may not function as money in another time and place — as such money has no universal type or representation. The Impact of Management Control Systems on Employees’ Behavior During Remote Work (Controlling und Rechnungslegung - Managerial and Financial Accounting)

The new trend towards flexible work environments has spurred the debate over the effects of remote work on employees’ behavior and has forced greater consideration of how management control systems must be adjusted to meet the needs of the new work environment. While the existing literature has observed several positive behavioral changes, such as increased performance and effort, counterproductive work behavior has also been identified. Combining an experimental and a case study research approach, the present study investigates whether a management control system can mitigate unwanted behavior during remote work. The experimental study manipulates the use of management controls and analyzes the effects of an enabling vs. a coercive management control system on dishonest behavior. The data reveal that individuals who perceive the system as enabling and feel a connection to the company behave more honestly during remote work. The organizational connection entirely mediates the perception of the management control system on dishonest behavior. To further investigate this effect, a case study approach was applied. Based on interviews, several factors are identified that might impact the enabling perception of the control system in remote work settings. The six factors are divided into situational and individual attributes.

However, CSS has not become mainstream in sociology, for which there are two reasons. First, CSS does not necessarily solve major research questions in sociology. Second, its sociological foundations are weak. These two reasons are interrelated—that is, CSS cannot solve major research questions because its sociological foundations are weak. Thus, even if it tries to solve those questions, its approaches seem to mainstream sociologists to miss the point. To resolve that shortcoming, this book fills the gap between CSS and sociology, shows that CSS can solve major research questions in sociology, and advances sociology by introducing to it theories and methodologies of CSS.

Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes sind Texten und Rezeptionszusammenhängen gewidmet, die Rezipientinnen und Rezipienten explizit in eine Richterposition setzen. Konkret geht es um literarische Phänomene, bei denen Rezipierende nicht bloß verstehen und deuten, sondern (be- und ver-)urteilen – zum einen im engen (juristischen) und zum anderen im weiten (ästhetischen) Sinne des Urteilsbegriffs. Zu unterscheiden sind hierbei Laienurteile in Strafsachen und die Einforderung professioneller Urteile, bei denen Leserinnen und Leser (metaphorisch) als Kunstrichter angesprochen, konstruiert oder zu agieren verpflichtet werden. Das literaturgeschichtliche Spektrum reicht dabei vom 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart, mit einem Schwerpunkt im frühen 20. Jahrhundert.
