Mathematical Methods using Python: Applications in Physics and Engineering

This advanced undergraduate textbook presents a new approach to teaching mathematical methods for scientists and engineers. It provides a practical, pedagogical introduction to utilizing Python in Mathematical and Computational Methods courses. Both analytical and computational examples are integrated from its start. The book places less emphasis on mathematical proofs, and more emphasis on how to use computers for both symbolic and numerical calculations. She taught at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), City College of New York, Columbia College of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University, Elmhurst College, and Chicago State University. In 1968 she became Poet Laureate of Illinois, succeeding the first Poet Laureate, Carl Sandburg. In 1988, she was inducted into the National Women' s Hall of Fame. She published many books, including poetry for adults and children, one novel, writing manuals and an autobiography. In 1985, she became the 29th and final appointment as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. She was a member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Among her awards are the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award, the Shelley Memorial Award, the Anisfield-WolfAward, the Kuumba Liberation Award, two Guggenheim Fellowships, the Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America, a National Book Award nomination for "In the Mecca" and the National Endowment for The Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989.
