Healing With Hemp CBD Oil

by Earl Mindell

The health benefits of marijuana are now getting a good deal of attention. Yet hemp—a close relative of marijuana—is actually a far richer source of CBD, the compound responsible for effectively treating dozens of disorders, and contains very little THC, the substance responsible for marijuana&’s highs. Sounds like growing and using hemp is a win-win situation, right? Not quite, because the US government, which holds the patent for CBD specifically because of its healing abilities, has unfairly classified hemp as a Class 1 drug, thereby banning people in the United States from growing it commercially. If you find this confusing, you&’re not alone. That&’s why best-selling author Earl Mindell has written Healing with Hemp CBD Oil, a straightforward book that will first help you understand what&’s going on with hemp oil in the United States, and then teach you how to use this valuable natural remedy to improve your health. The book begins by looking at the important role the hemp plant has played in both Eastern and Western societies as a source for paper, textiles, rope, and so much more. This is followed by a discussion of the science behind CBD&’s medical benefits. The author then provides a consumer&’s guide to buying hemp products—especially its oil and its CBD supplements—and offers an eye-opening examination of hemp&’s legal status in the United States, from the 1900s to now. Finally, based on up-to-date studies, Dr. Mindell presents an A-to-Z guide to the many uses of hemp oil and CBD for various health conditions, from arthritis to depression to heart disease.Although the United States has given CBD-rich hemp a problematic legal status, fortunately, this product—sourced from other countries—is readily available. Healing with Hemp CBD Oilguides you in using this all-natural substance as a safe, side effect-free remedy.

No One Had a Tongue to Speak: The Untold Story of One of History's Deadliest Floods

by Tom Wooten Utpal Sandesara

On August 11, 1979, after a week of extraordinary monsoon rains in the Indian state of Gujarat, the two mile-long Machhu Dam-II disintegrated. The waters released from the dam's massive reservoir rushed through the heavily populated downstream area, devastating the industrial city of Morbi and its surrounding agricultural villages. As the torrent's thirty-foot-tall leading edge cut its way through the Machhu River valley, massive bridges gave way, factories crumbled, and thousands of houses collapsed. While no firm figure has ever been set on the disaster's final death count, estimates in the flood's wake ran as high as 25,000. Despite the enormous scale of the devastation, few people today have ever heard of this terrible event. This book tells, for the first time, the suspenseful and multifaceted story of the Machhu dam disaster. Based on over 130 interviews and extensive archival research, the authors recount the disaster and its aftermath in vivid firsthand detail. The book presents important findings culled from formerly classified government documents that reveal the long-hidden failures that culminated in one of the deadliest floods in history. The authors follow characters whose lives were interrupted and forever altered by the flood; provide vivid first-hand descriptions of the disaster and its aftermath; and shed light on the never-completed judicial investigation into the dam's collapse.

Cancer: A Second Opinion

by Josef Issels

Long before the term &“alternative&” was part of our medical culture, Dr. Josef Issels created the world&’s first fully &“integrative&” cancer therapy, curing advanced, recurrent cancer. He therefore made use of every weapon in his arsenal to reduce tumors and strengthen the immune response. 30 Days a Black Man: The Forgotten Story That Exposed the Jim Crow South

by Bill Steigerwald

In 1948 most white people in the North had no idea how unjust and unequal daily life was for the 10 million African Americans living in the South. But that suddenly changed after Ray Sprigle, a famous white journalist from Pittsburgh, went undercover and lived as a black man in the Jim Crow South.Escorted through the South&’s parallel black society by John Wesley Dobbs, a historic black civil rights pioneer from Atlanta, Sprigle met with sharecroppers, local black leaders, and families of lynching victims. He visited ramshackle black schools and slept at the homes of prosperous black farmers and doctors. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter&’s series was syndicated coast to coast in white newspapers and carried into the South only by the Pittsburgh Courier, the country&’s leading black paper. His vivid descriptions and undisguised outrage at "the iniquitous Jim Crow system" shocked the North, enraged the South, and ignited the first national debate in the media about ending America&’s system of apartheid.Six years before Brown v. Board of Education, seven years before the murder of Emmett Till, and thirteen years before John Howard Griffin&’s similar experiment became the bestseller Black Like Me, Sprigle&’s intrepid journalism blasted into the American consciousness the grim reality of black lives in the South.Author Bill Steigerwald elevates Sprigle&’s groundbreaking exposé to its rightful place among the seminal events of the early Civil Rights movement.

The Most Land, the Best Cattle: The Waggoners of Texas

by Judy Alter

In the 19th century, Daniel Waggoner and his son, W.T. (Tom), put together an empire in North Texas that became the largest ranch under one fence in the nation. The 520,000-plus acres or 800 square miles covers six counties and sits on a large oil field in the Red River Valley of North Texas. Over the years, the estate also owned five banks, three cottonseed oil mills, and a coal company. While the Waggoner men built the empire, their wives and daughters enjoyed the fruits of their labor. This dynasty&’s love of the land was rivaled only by their love of money and celebrity, and the different family factions eventually clashed. Although Dan seems to have led a fairly low-profile life, W. T. moved to Fort Worth, became a bank director, built two office buildings, ran his cattle on the Big Pasture in Indian Territory (Oklahoma), hosted Teddy Roosevelt at a wolf hunt in the Big Pasture, and sent Quanah Parker to Washington, D.C., for Roosevelt&’s inauguration. W. T. had two sons, Guy and E. Paul, and a daughter named Electra, the light of his life. W. T. built a mansion in Fort Worth for her—today the house, the last surviving cattle baron mansion on Fort Worth&’s Silk Stocking Row, is open to the public for tours and events. Electra, an international celebrity and extravagant shopper (she once spent $10,000 in one day at Neiman Marcus), died at the age of forty-three.Guy had nine wives; his brother E. Paul, partier and horse breeder, was married to the same woman for fifty years and had one daughter, Electra II. Electra II was a both a celebrity and a talented sculptor, best known for a heroic-size statue of Will Rogers on his horse, Soapsuds, as well as busts of two presidents and various movie stars. After marriage to an executive she settled in a mansion at the ranch and raised two daughters. This colorful history of one of Texas&’s most influential ranching families demonstrates that it took strength and determination to survive in the ranching world…and the society it spawned.

The Reagans: Portrait of a Marriage

by Anne Edwards

He was an actor, newly divorced, whose controversial tenure as president of the Screen Actors Guild was drawing more attention than his fading film career. She was a contract player at MGM, unmarried and rapidly growing too old to play the starlet. It was time, she decided, to settle down and become Mrs. Somebody Important. So Nancy Davis contrived an introduction to Ronald Reagan, and the Reagans march into history began. The Reagans: Portrait of a Marriage is a penetrating portrayal of one of the most powerful couples of the twentieth century. Distinguished biographer Anne Edwards paints the first in-depth, intimate portrait of the man who became our fortieth president and the woman without whom he might never have reached such heights. It was a dramatic love story from the start: Nancy was always first in Reagan's thoughts and he was paramount in Nancy's actions. But this obsessional love had a darker side for the four Reagan children. Anne Edwards brings the Reagans' dysfunctional family life into sharp focus, along with a fascinating array of supporting players such as Reagan's evangelistic mother, Nelle, Frank Sinatra, and Gerald Ford. Few first ladies had as much power as Nancy Reagan, and few were so widely disliked. Anne Edwards shows a side of her never before revealed---from Nancy's ardent defense of Reagan's interests with both opponents and supporters, to the most difficult battle yet, the struggle to maintain her husband's dignity through his descent into Alzheimer's disease. The Reagans is an original and mesmerizing look at one of America's most important presidential marriages.
