Las vocales malditas

Vox Populi, Las vocales malditas es un verdadero tour de force: cada relato está escrito con palabras que sólo tienen la misma vocal. "Los locos somos otro cosmos", por ejemplo, excluye todas las vocales salvo la o; y son así, cinco relatos. Estos textos prueban el talento de su autor para un juego cargado: la arbitrariedad del juego formal sólo es aparente. La vocal dominante resta del lenguaje su habla casual y la vuelve otra versión de las cosas. Se trata de otra manera de nombrar dentro del mismo lenguaje, citando, en su fonética arbitraria, un propósito obsesivo y sistemático, que asedia a los significados con su ironía y su burla. La narración en contrapunto traslada al lector al momento de la filmación, en un paraje semidesértico ubicado cerca de Tudela, en Navarra.Producida por un estrafalario y nada serio personaje (Alfonso) junto a otro perfectamente contrapuesto que con tino diagnostica el fin del proyecto en diversas ocasiones (Miguel), la película que se encarga de dirigir el narrador se trata western futurista, en que se combinan elementos del género americano con platillos volantes y dinosaurios alienígenas, llegados a la tierra con propósitos nada apacibles. Los problemas de financiación son los primeros, pero no los únicos en hacer peligrar la viabilidad del proyecto. Entre las muchas, casi inenarrables dificultades que surgen merecen ser reseñadas, por ejemplo, la intermitente pero incesante presencia de cazabombarderos F-16 sobrevolando la zona y haciendo prácticas de tiro a pocos metros del staff; la muerte de uno de los principales personajes, enfermo de sida (a quien tiene que sustituir otro actor con el rostro cubierto y la consiguiente modificación del guión); o el pavor que despierta la mera posibilidad de que la estrella de rock especialmente contratada para la ocasión se reenganche a las drogas, incitado por otro de los actores, y así eche a perder su carrera y el rodaje.

The importance and benefit of specialised nutrition care, delivered by experts in field, is well established for those with complex nutrition care needs. However, despite the substantial adverse impact of malnutrition on patient and healthcare outcomes, specialised management of this condition is often under-resourced, overlooked and under-prioritised by both older adults and their treating teams. As an alternative, timely, efficient, and effective supportive nutrition care opportunities may be appropriately implemented by nurses and non-specialist Interdisciplinary healthcare team members, working together with nutrition specialists and the older adults they care for. Practical, low-risk opportunities should be considered across nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and monitoring domains for many patients with, or at risk of malnutrition. Whilst a variety of team members may contribute to supportive nutrition care, the nursing profession provide a clear focal point. Nurses across diverse settings provide the backbone for Interdisciplinary teamwork and essential patient care. The nursing profession should consequently be considered best placed to administer Interdisciplinary, multimodal nutrition care, wherever specialist nutrition care referrals are unlikely to add value or are simply not available. As such, the book is a valuable resource for all healthcare providers dedicated to working with older patients to improve nutrition care.

The Travels of Reverend Ólafur Egilsson: The Story of the Barbary Corsair Raid on Iceland in 1627
by Ólafur EgilssonA seventeenth-century minister tells his story of abduction by pirates, and a solo journey from Algiers to Copenhagen, in this remarkable historical text. In summer 1627, Barbary corsairs raided Iceland, killing dozens and abducting almost four hundred people to sell into slavery in Algiers. Among those taken was Lutheran minister Olafur Egilsson. Reverend Olafur—born in the same year as William Shakespeare and Galileo Galilei—wrote The Travels to chronicle his experiences both as a captive and as a traveler across Europe as he journeyed alone from Algiers to Copenhagen in an attempt to raise funds to ransom the Icelandic captives that remained behind. He was a keen observer, and the narrative is filled with a wealth of detail―social, political, economic, religious―about both the Maghreb and Europe. It is also a moving story on the human level: We witness a man enduring great personal tragedy and struggling to reconcile such calamity with his understanding of God. The Travels is the first-ever English translation of the Icelandic text. Until now, the corsair raid on Iceland has remained largely unknown in the English-speaking world.
