by UnknownTransnational Philippines: Cultural Encounters in Philippine Literature in Spanish approaches literature that has been forgotten or neglected in studies on other literatures in Spanish due, in part, to the fact that today Spanish is no longer spoken in the Philippines or in Asia. However, isolation has not always been the case, and by omitting Philippine literature in Spanish from the picture of world literatures and Spanish-language literatures, the landscape of these disciplines is incomplete. Transnational Philippines studies how this literary production stemmed from its relationship with other cultures, literature, and arts. It attempts to break this literature’s isolation and show how it is part of the broad literary system of literature written in Spanish. Yet Transnational Philippines also questions the constraints of traditional literary genres in order to make room for Philippine texts and other colonial and postcolonial texts, so that those texts can be taken into consideration in literary studies. Its chapters elaborate on the problems surrounding the cultural and identity relations of the Philippines with other regions and the literary nature of Philippine texts. By addressing the need for a postnational approach to Spanish-language Philippine literature, the book challenges the Spain/Latin America dichotomy existing in Spanish language literary studies and leans toward a global conception of the Hispanophone.

What we share is a commitment to parenting beyond the limits of biology, and of building families that are drawn together and maintained by the love and labour of parenting. The fifteen essays in this book address three key moments in our parenting journeys. First, we examine the routes we took to parenting, with many of us specifically focusing on the experience of being the "other" mother while our partners were pregnant, and the particular fears, anxieties, and triumphs that come with it. Second, we locate ourselves "in the thick of it" as parents, where the experiences shared among parents are colored by our particular experiences as nonbiological/non-gestational mothers/parents. Antes de decir algo más sobre mi libro, me gustaría decir algo sobre mí y mi proceso de pensamiento. Nacido y criado en Dehradun, siempre he compartido una estrecha afinidad con la naturaleza. Solía amar, todavía lo hago, observando la naturaleza y reflexionando sobre cómo puede ser amorosa y cruel al mismo tiempo. Crecí con mis pensamientos y tomé la vela, un trabajo que me encajaba perfectamente. Mi mente errante ahora tenía más por qué reflexionar. A menudo he estado solo en la cubierta de mi barco, sintiendo las vibraciones de un océano subiendo por debajo y viendo el cielo cambiar sus colores y su estado de ánimo sin ninguna indicación. A veces me he asustado .... Desconcertado ... hipnotizado ... de una vez. Respeto la naturaleza en todos sus aspectos ... su benevolencia ... su furia ... sus colores ... su quietud ... su brusquedad ... su imprevisibilidad ... todo! In slavernij door het ego geniet de man van valse trots, valsheid van de valsheid en valsste beveiliging. De zoektocht eindigt nooit. De dorst is nooit uitgeblust. De geest blijft pre-occupied. Het hart ziet in beroering. Koude rede betrekt wijsheid en de menselijke geboorte hunkeren naar rechtvaardiging. Toch heeft de welwillende heer een masterplan.
