Generative Knowledge: Think, Learn, Create with AI
by Paolo GranataProvides a bold conceptual framework for reimagining knowledge creation in the age of artificial intelligence What does it mean to know in a knowledge economy shaped by artificial intelligence? Generative Knowledge: Think, Learn, Create with AI explores how AI is redefining how we know and especially how knowledge itself is created, shared, and applied. Paolo Granata presents a compelling conceptual framework of Generative Knowledge—a dynamic and socially embedded form of knowing that expands through iterative, collaborative, and tool-mediated processes—showing how human-AI collaboration unlocks creative potential previously unimaginable. Drawing from a rich intellectual tradition that spans media theory, epistemology, and cognitive science, Generative Knowledge invites readers to rethink what it means to know, not in spite of AI, but in partnership with it. The book is structured around six foundational principles—iteration, instrumentality, sociality, inquiry, learnability, and creativity—developing new forms of critical thinking for the AI age. These principles and the closing portrait of today's “generative thinkers” mirror Granata's conceptual argument and serve as a model for epistemic engagement, with AI as a cognitive partner to generate new knowledge. Repositioning AI from a mere tool of automation or productivity enhancer to a co-creative partner in intellectual inquiry, Generative Knowledge: Emphasizes the generative mindset—flexible, collaborative, and forward-thinking—for thriving in an AI-enhanced knowledge economy Reframes AI as an epistemic technology that mediates and reshapes the human pursuit of understanding Provides a transdisciplinary synthesis of media ecology, pragmatist philosophy, cognitive science, and constructionist epistemology for cultivating AI Literacy Introduces a new lexicon and a conceptual framework to help readers navigate emerging epistemic and technological paradigms Generative Knowledge: Think, Learn, Create with AI is ideal for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in courses such as AI Literacy, Media Theory, Epistemology, Philosophy of Technology, Educational Technology, and Knowledge Management. It is also a valuable resource for educators, researchers, and professionals working in the knowledge economy and knowledge-driven fields within arts, humanities, and interdisciplinary programs.

The End of the Gay Rights Revolution: How Hubris and Overreach Threaten Gay Freedom
by Ronan McCreaThe gay rights movement in the West has succeeded beyond its wildest dreams – but this success seems suddenly fragile. Ronan McCrea’s important book argues that this is no blip. Forces favourable to gay rights – such as the wider cultural shift towards greater sexual freedom – are weakening, while political developments, cultural changes and migration patterns mean that sources of opposition, both old and new, are gaining strength. The gay rights movement is ill-equipped to meet this challenge. Convinced that history is on its side, the movement has expanded its aims and made new enemies while refusing to consider whether elements of the sexual freedoms it fought for have had unforeseen downsides, including for gay people themselves. For the gay rights revolution to endure, a fundamental reconsideration of its goals, its history and its limits is required. Anyone wanting to understand the challenges faced by gay rights and the wider liberal project needs to read this timely warning.

Neuroscience and Society: The Interface of Neuroscience and the Social Sciences (Frontiers in Neuroscience)
by Sukumar Vijayaraghavan Gidon FelsenAdvances in neuroscience research are rapidly redefining what it means to be human. The absence of the brain/mind dichotomy has, in turn, removed the separation between our brain biology and our sociocultural experiences, raising questions for social sciences to address. How responsible are we, as individuals, for our actions? Do we have free will? Is it ethical for us to peer into others’ brains? How are our collective social cultural norms influenced by our brain function? At the same time, neuroscientists need to develop better intuition about the ethical, legal, and social implications of their research. Close collaboration between neuroscience and social sciences is the best way forward. This book acts as an introduction to these and other issues that lie at the interface of neuroscience and social sciences, using the physiological underpinnings of our decision-making processes as a framework. Examples of topics addressed here are: Neuroscience and economics Neuroscience and law Neuroscience and ethics Neuroscience and mental health Neuroscience of religion and humour The book is intended for students of neuroscience and social sciences, as well as readers generally interested in the human condition. It is hoped that the book will stimulate cross-disciplinary thinking and inspire a new generation of thinkers who are willing to look at both social sciences and neuroscience research with a different lens. Such bridge builders will be the pioneers of the next level of interrogation at this emerging interface.

Foundations of Economics: A Christian View
by Shawn RitenourFoundations of Economics: A Christian View is an introduction to economics from an explicitly Christian perspective. It maintains that there is no conflict between Christian doctrine and economic science, properly understood. Therefore, Foundations of Economics has three goals: to demonstrate that the foundations of economic laws are derived from a Christian understanding of nature and humanity; to explain basic economic principles of the market economy and apply them to various economic problems, such as poverty and economic development; and to show the relationship between Christian ethics and economic policy. Foundations of Economics: A Christian View accomplishes these goals by rooting the fundamental principles of human action in the Christian doctrines of creation and humanity, and integrating them with the Christian ethic of private property. This volume explains the relevance of economics for fulfilling the cultural mandate set forth in the first two chapters of Genesis, by demonstrating how economics can help us in our task to be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the earth, without spoiling creation, starving to death, or descending into a barbaric struggle for survival.
How to Love a Forest
by Ethan TapperWinner of the New England Book Award
2024 Finalist for the Vermont Book Awards
A tender, fearless exploration by a forester writing in the tradition of Suzanne Simard, Robin Wall Kimmerer, and Robert Macfarlane.
Only those who love trees should cut them, writes forester Ethan Tapper. In How to Love a Forest, he asks what it means to live in a time when ecosystems are in retreat and extinctions rattle the bones of the earth. How do we respond to the harmful legacies of the past? How do we use our species' incredible power to heal rather than to harm?
Tapper walks us through the fragile and resilient community that is a forest. He introduces us to wolf trees and spring ephemerals, and to the mysterious creatures of the rhizosphere and the necrosphere. He helps us reimagine what forests are and what it means to care for them. This world, Tapper writes, is degraded by people who do too much and by those who do nothing. As the ecosystems that sustain all life struggle, we straddle two worlds: a status quo that treats them as commodities, and opposing claims that the only true expression of love for the natural world is to leave it alone.
Proffering a more complex vision, Tapper argues that the actions we must take to protect ecosystems are often counterintuitive, uncomfortable, even heartbreaking. With striking prose, he shows how bittersweet acts--like loving deer and hunting them, loving trees and felling them--can be expressions of compassion. Tapper weaves a new land ethic for the modern world, reminding us that what is simple is rarely true, and what is necessary is rarely easy.
