Selected Writings, Volume 2: Curating the Postcolonial Condition, Volume 2
by Okwui EnwezorOkwui Enwezor is widely regarded as a leader among the brilliant curators who emerged in the 1990s to set agendas for understanding the global expansiveness of contemporary art. Among his pathfinding exhibitions were the second Johannesburg Biennale (1997), the paradigm-shifting Documenta 11 (2002), Archive Fever (2008), and Postwar (2016). In addition to breaking ground as a curator, Enwezor was also a prolific critic, essayist, and theorist. Selected Writings—a landmark two-volume set—brings together Enwezor’s most influential and foundational works. Spanning a quarter-century, these selections reflect the depth and breadth of Enwezor’s writing and its role in his tireless efforts to decolonize the art world. Volume 2, Curating the Postcolonial Condition, includes seventeen essays written between 2006 and 2019. Drawn from exhibition catalogs, art journals, interviews with artists, art reviews, curatorial statements, historical studies, and book chapters, these texts show him striving to fulfil the second main ambition that drove his career: enabling a critical, diasporic imagining of postcoloniality that would become pervasive within global art discourse. Demonstrating that his writing helped fulfill this goal, this collection reaffirms Enwezor’s status as a transformational figure in the global contemporary art world.

The book was really a compilation of documents collected by an unknown 13th century monk. Working with John Matthews, Maarten spent five years translating the mysteries hidden in this obscure book.Presenting their translation and commentary, the authors share forgotten stories of early Arthurian literature and magic. They share the tale of Merlin&’s birth from a demon, how he was born able to speak, and how his magic ensured he was not killed by his guardian. Merlin&’s affair with the Lady of the Lake is detailed, ending with his imprisonment in a tomb. Other stories include Percival&’s first contact with the Grail and King Arthur&’s connection with the mystical king Prester John. The authors show how The Prophecies of Merlin sheds new light on the world of King Arthur and the women who learned magic from Merlin. To reveal the esoteric meaning of this work, the authors include Welsh prophecies attributed to Merlin (translated by John and Caitlín Matthews), other prophecies attributed to Merlin that were compiled by Geoffrey of Monmouth, and the original letter of Prester John that inspired the Polo family and Columbus to search for India.Discovering a hitherto lost or forgotten book about Merlin and King Arthur is a rare event these days. Yet here the authors present a virtually forgotten and, to date, untranslated book, which includes much that is new—and exciting—about the legendary king and his magical adviser. Through their translation and insightful passage by passage commentary, they reveal secrets long hidden behind the obscure language of the prophetic utterances.

Neopragmatism - Inverse Landscape -: From Critique to Further Development (Neopragmatic Horizontal Geographies #2)
by Olaf Kühne Karsten Berr Dennis Edler Kai Schuster Petra LohmannLandscape appears stable and consistent. At least, this is a common perception of landscape. This view ignores the contingency of landscape, which is evident in the past and future as well as in the present and not just in relation to the physical spaces into which 'landscape' is projected but also in relation to social constructions and individual experience. The contingency of landscape becomes clear in inverse landscapes, which illustrate states and processes that are not impossible, but also not requisite. In this way, inverse landscapes form a tool for operationalizing the neopragmatist idea of expanding contingency. The concept of inverse landscape is subjected to criticism in various ways, from internal criticism to metatheoretical criticism to life-related pragmatic criticism. This critique is performed from an interdisciplinary perspective. The aim of this book is to further develop the concept, both regarding a more differentiated understanding of the contingency of landscape and also concerning the question of how it can help to solve practical problems in the context of 'landscape'.

Spectral Discretization-Based Eigen-Analysis of Time-Delay Systems: Numerical Methods and Scalable Applications
by Hua Ye Yutian Liu Xiaofan JiaThis book focuses on the partial spectral discretization (PSD)-based eigenvalue computation methods for large-scale time-delay systems. Due to past-dependence in the evolution of a system, time delays may greatly affect the system’s dynamics. For example, wide-area damping controllers in the interconnected power systems are fed by remote synchrophasor measurements and thus inevitably introduce time delays into the control loop. These delays ranging from tens to hundreds of milliseconds can deteriorate the performance of the controllers and further jeopardize the power system stability. Therefore, this book addresses two classes of efficient eigenvalue computation methods for time-delay systems based on the PSD idea, as well as their applications to power systems with inclusion of time delays. The methods are expected to obtain the accurate stability boundary of time-delay systems with affordable computational burden. This book would appeal to engineers, researchers and graduate students in power and control engineering, as well as computational and applied mathematicians.

Nordic Socialism: The Path Toward a Democratic Economy
by Pelle DragstedIn recent years, the Nordic countries have been the envy of the world for their economic success, institutional stability, and consistently high levels of social happiness. But are they socialist? Several prominent members of the American right think so. They may find a surprising ally in Pelle Dragsted, a member of the Danish parliament and the leader of the socialist political party Enhedslisten (Red-Green Alliance); contrary to most Nordic leaders, Dragsted not only accepts but embraces the charge of socialism. In Dragsted’s analysis, Denmark and the rest of the Nordic countries are already socialist, but only in part. The dangers come (and here many conservative Americans will disagree) from the unhealthy encroachment of capitalism. His provocative argument is that capitalism and socialism are not in fact mutually exclusive, and already Nordic economies are hybrids, a mix of decommodified, democratically governed sectors and undemocratic, privately controlled enterprises. The relevant question is the degree to which one dominates the other. Currently, undemocratic forces are ascendant, but it need not be so. Dragsted offers both his diagnosis and his proposed solution, a comprehensive plan for a gradual (re)democratization of the economy and a move to fully and firmly embrace, and redefine, “Nordic socialism.”
