Conceptual Metaphor Theory in World Language Education: Theory, Research, and Pedagogy
by Loretta FernándezThis edited collection explores the scholarly and pedagogical implementations of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) in world language education. The chapters offer a diverse range of theoretical and pedagogical perspectives as well as methodologies aiming to achieve the following objectives: Introduce novice linguists, novice researchers, and pre-service language teachers to CMT, its extensions, and its applications, while providing an overview of the current state of the discipline; Shed light on new research and pedagogical practices for linguists, researchers, and language educators at all levels; Present theoretically founded and research-based examples of the pedagogical application of CMT across multiple world languages, including English, French, Mandarin, and Spanish; Highlight the experiences and perspectives of practitioner educators who have implemented CMT in world language education. By addressing these objectives, the book aims to provide a comprehensive and insightful exploration of CMT’s role in world language education, offering guidance and inspiration for both researchers and practitioners in the field.
Conceptualisation and Measurement of Financial Competence: A Holistic Approach and Implications for Financial Education (SpringerBriefs in Education)
by Manuel Förster Mandy HommelThis Open access book offers a pivotal contribution to the field of financial literacy research as it advances the understanding of financial literacy as a holistic competence encompassing cognition, motivation, emotion, attitude, behaviour and their interrelationships. It provides a comprehensive overview and evaluation of concepts, constructs and frameworks related to financial literacy and instruments used to measure financial competence. The work also discusses identification, synthesis and systematisation of a wide range of cognitive and non-cognitive influences on financial behaviour. The book not only introduces a unique, holistic model of financial competence, but also presents a draft of an innovative technology-based test instrument designed to simulate and trace complex financial decision-making processes and elucidate challenges confronted in complex problem-solving situations. The aim of this book is to shift from an isolated focus on individual cognitive facets (mainly knowledge) to a holistic modeling of competence in order to systematise the landscape of research on financial literacy and financial competence. The work is instrumental for researchers, educators and policymakers in advancing their understanding and methodologies and in paving the way for effective financial education interventions and promoting financially competent behaviour.
Concerning The Quantum in Art (Routledge Focus on Art History and Visual Studies)
by Paul ThomasThis book offers an artist’s perspective on the intriguing relationship between quantum physics and fine art, focusing particularly on the role of probability, chance and uncertainty. The author, rather than approaching quantum mechanics as a scientist, explores how its concepts shape perception and creative expression. Drawing inspiration from Walter Benjamin’s approach to photography and art, Thomas reframes the question: not whether artists can interpret quantum mechanics, but how quantum ideas influence artistic thought. Through metaphors, signs and serendipitous experiences, the book examines how the language and imagery of quantum theory intersect with the intuitive, often contradictory nature of artistic practice. It argues that while science attempts to measure phenomena, art probes sensation—offering new ways to visualise, question and internalise complex realities and showing how intuition and uncertainty have always played roles in both scientific and artistic revolutions. This text is ideal for scholars and artists interested in art education, art theory and scientific approaches to art.

Conducting High-Quality Longitudinal Studies of College Students: Considerations for Design, Analysis, and Interpretation
by Kristen A. Renn David J. NguyenThis guide informs the construction and execution of studies exploring college student development over time.Longitudinal studies represent a gold standard for understanding college student experiences and outcomes, yet many scholars partake in single-time surveys and interviews to avoid the challenges that occur during prolonged investigation. This book walks researchers through each step of the process, including strategies for avoiding mistakes in design, coping with unexpected variables, and learning lessons from real-world research experiences. This volume is a useful companion for educational researchers considering, planning, or launching longitudinal designs, and it also functions as a practical supplement for graduate courses focusing on research methods and/or college students.
Conducting Narratives: Navigating Through Complexity Using Strategic Improvisation
by Jesper Falkheimer Hans Gennerud Katarina Gentzel Sandberg Mats TyrstrupHow can the strategic direction for an organization be supported and communicated if planning, and even strategies, are no longer sufficient options in the age of complexity? In this book it is argued that sense-making communication defines contemporary societies and organizations in a world where narratives and the ability to engage in strategic improvisation are crucial. In the book, new and old ideas about communication and management are integrated into a framework rooted in the humanities and fine arts. The result is a new conceptual mindset for management which claims that jazz music, narrative theory, and improvisational theatre have more to offer to the development of organizations than traditional managerial models.

Confucian Literature of the Tang and Song Dynasties: An Annotated Anthology 唐宋儒家詩文譯注
by Zu-yan ChenThis book establishes “Confucian Literature” as a multidisciplinary genre. By breaking down the barriers between literature and philosophy, this book opens the field of Chinese literature to new interpretive methods, and brings Confucian values to readers through literature. The anthology is a selection of 28 literary works—12 poems and 16 prose pieces—by 21 authors from the Tang and Song Dynasties (618–1279). The translations, arranged side by side with the original texts, strive to remain as faithful as possible to the wording of the source material, and conveying its meaning, style, and beauty. The commentary investigates philosophical discourse, locates Confucian values, and points to where literature joins philosophy.
