Digital Transformation and Business Sustainability: From Theory to Practice
by Geetika Jain Malahat GhoreishiDigital transformation brings new opportunities, but also disruption, to the way businesses work. The application of technologies such as blockchain, AI, Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data has the potential to revolutionize how businesses operate and incorporate sustainable practices within manufacturing processes and supply chains, creating value and redeveloping business models. Digital technologies can also enable more efficient collaboration between various partners across the globe and increase transparency in the supply chain. But while the adoption of new technology can have benefits for businesses, customers and the environment, individual businesses’ uptake of new technologies is highly variable, leading to disruption in the supply and value chains.Digital Transformation and Business Sustainability: From Theory to Practice provides insights into the principle of digital transformation and the key technologies that enable businesses to put the principle into practice. The early chapters set out what digital transformation means for business and how an organization can be ready for it. This book then asks a series of critical questions about digital transformation, such as whether it enables inclusive markets and how compatible it is with digital inclusion and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The issue of business sustainability is then addressed in a series of chapters looking at digital transformation and the circular economy.Featuring diverse cases and examples drawn from across the global economy, and assessing both the theory and practice of digital transformation, this book is an ideal resource for postgraduate students on management courses, professionals on executive education courses, researchers and lecturers.Chapter 3 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC-BY-NC) 4.0 license.
Ornament and Class: Modern Architecture and the Rise of the Bourgeoisie (Routledge Research in Architecture)
by Gary Huafan HeThis groundbreaking study examines the intricate relationship between the rise of the nineteenth-century bourgeoisie and the emergence of modern architecture, exploring this connection through major intellectual and theoretical works while also analyzing their tangible manifestations in buildings and architectural projects.Contrary to received narratives that describe the birth of modern architecture as primarily an aesthetic movement, Ornament and Class argues that the social and political maturation of the European bourgeoisie as a distinct-yet-heterogeneous group influenced modern attitudes toward architecture at every level. Bringing architecture into conversation with recent histories of the bourgeoisie in the social sciences, the book considers how architecture was used as a tool to separate the modern bourgeoisie from the aristocratic and clerical forces above and the working classes below. It explores how architects, clients, planners, and administrators grappled with and dealt with ornament, architecture, and modernity from within the new realities of urban and global capitalism, and shows how these realities serve as pedagogical touchstones that remain with us today.Historians, architecture scholars, and students interested in modern architecture, aesthetics, and European history, especially those focusing on the interplay between modern architecture and social development, will find this book an invaluable resource.
The Great Return
by Jamie FranklinThe decline in Secular Western morality can only be halted and reversed by a full return to Christianity. Many people have a sense that the Western World is in decline and that our society is fragmenting around us. Many people have an ominous sense that we are living at the end of a civilised age and are moving into something far less pleasant and humane. But fewer people understand why this is happening. In this new book, Jamie Franklin argues that the reason for this decline is because we have jettisoned the underlying belief system that gave birth to the Western world - and the Western mind - in the first place: Christianity. He argues that there is a logical and inevitable link between the decline of Christianity and the decline of the West. As our metaphysical commitment to Christianity declines, so does our commitment to the benefits that came to us from Christianity. Through captivating argument, he demonstrates how this plays out in the scientific realm, which has abandoned objectivity for dogmatism; in the ethical realm, which is eliminating humanity from its own formulations; and in the political scene, as it moves away from the democratic principle towards a neo-marxist influenced, nihilistic technocracy that threatens to eliminate human culture, distinctiveness and agency in the pursuit of a globalist utopia. In so doing, Franklin touches on contemporary political conversations that are exercising the public imagination such as abortion, euthanasia, transhumanism, and the rebirth of the totalitarian impulse in Western democracies. Only a revival of Christianity can reverse these trends. This book urges the Church to take seriously its own commitment to the metaphysical and ethical presuppositions of its own faith. But also acknowledges the great challenge that Christianity faces as it threatens to be overwhelmed by the rising tide of secular nihilism that may yet engulf the Western World.

Unmaking Mary: Shattering the Myth of Perfect Motherhood
by Chine McDonald'Astute, smart, witty and brave. A radical, deeply thoughtful and essential intervention'Lucy Jones, author of Matrescence'A deeply valuable reflection on motherhood'Rowan WilliamsFor two thousand years, the Virgin Mary has been depicted throughout art, literature and culture as symbolising the perfect mother: chaste, beautiful, meek, mild and white. These supposed virtues and symbols have penetrated not just Christianity but wider popular culture; and contributed to harmful views about motherhood and what it is to be a woman. In this part-memoir, part social and theological commentary, Chine McDonald deconstructs the myth of perfect motherhood and shines a light on the dark side of parenting. From birth trauma to post-natal depression, from infertility to the mental load, the motherhood penalty and pressures on women to be and have it all - especially in the church - this book attempts to liberate motherhood from the chains in which it has been placed, reconstructing a more authentic, grace-filled way forward for the most important job in the world.Unmaking Mary will include a foreword written by Beth Allison Barr, author of The Making of Biblical Womanhood.

Reflections on the Case for Audit Reform: Seeking to Avoid Future Financial Scandals (Disruptions in Financial Reporting and Auditing)
by Krish Bhaskar Rod SellersThis is the final volume in a four-book miniseries dealing with disruption in audit and financial reporting, this last book focusing on the importance of developing the purpose and concept of auditing in a holistic rather than piecemeal way, whilst reflecting on the case for audit reform. It looks beyond current events and explores possible new entrants to the market, the role of regulation versus professionalism, developing a more prominent and reinvigorated auditing profession and how to meet wider stakeholder needs. The authors’ key proposal for discussion is for the traditional passive audit to be replaced with a proactive style of audit, where granular opinions, forward looking analysis and sensitivity reviews can aid the reader of accounts to come to their own conclusions. This book should act as a catalyst for radical thinking professionals, students, academics and company directors to influence future government reforms to meet societal needs in the twenty-first century.
Bivariate Integer-Valued Time Series Models: Bivariate Models
by Sunecher Yuvraj Mamode Khan Naushad Vandna JowaheerThis book proposes some novel models based on the autoregressive and moving average structures under various distributional assumptions of the innovation series for analysing non-stationary bivariate time series of counts.Time series of count responses are recorded for different correlated variables which may be marginally dispersed relative to their means, may exhibit different levels of dispersion and may be commonly influenced by one or more dynamic explanatory variables. Analysis of such type of bivariate time series data is quite challenging and the challenge mounts up further if these time series are non-stationary. This book proposes some bivariate models that allow for different levels of dispersion as well as non-stationarity. Specifically, BINAR(1) and BINMA(1) models under Poisson, NB and COM-Poisson innovations are constructed and tested. Another important contribution of this book is in developing a novel estimation procedure for estimating the parameters of the proposed BINAR(1) and BINMA(1) models. Hence, a new estimation approach based on the GQL is proposed. Monte-Carlo simulations are implemented to assess the performance of the GQL. In some simple cases of stationarity, we also compare the GQL with the other estimation techniques such as CMLE and FGLS.This book is a useful resource for undergraduate students, postgraduate students, researchers and academics in the field of time series models.
Trauma-Informed Restorative Dialogues: The Power of Community (Contemporary Issues in Restorative Practices)
by Claudia Christen-SchneiderThis book combines trauma-informed practice with restorative justice to explore how restorative dialogues can support those affected by trauma. Trauma-informed practice involves understanding the impact of trauma and creating an environment that is sensitive to its effects, which is essential for fostering meaningful dialogue between victims and offenders. Conversely, restorative justice focuses on addressing harm through inclusive processes involving victims, offenders and the community, and aims to respond to the needs of all parties affected by the harm.By integrating these perspectives, the book illustrates how trauma-informed restorative dialogues - an approach that expands access to restorative justice when direct encounters between victims and offenders are not possible - can improve access to justice, promote recovery and facilitate transformation. It provides practical guidance based on insights from victims and facilitators in five European countries and offenders in Swiss prisons, and addresses secondary trauma among practitioners, offering strategies for their self-care and organisational care.Aimed at practitioners, academics, policy makers and service providers, this in-depth research fills a gap in the restorative justice literature by demonstrating how trauma-informed principles can strengthen communities and support those affected by serious harm.

Equivocal Death: Investigating Suicide, Accidental, and other Questionable Deaths
by Arthur S. ChancellorEquivocal Death: Investigating Suicide, Accidental, and other Questionable Deaths refocuses the attention of first responders and investigative personnel to the concept of treating every death as a homicide, until sufficient evidence is discovered to validate another manner of death and eliminate the possibility of a staged homicide. All death investigations should include a well-documented and examined crime scene and a thorough preliminary investigation. It is a well-established, unwritten “rule” when conducting death investigations to initially treat every death as a possible homicide. This includes the examination of the body, the recovery scene, the autopsy, collection of forensic evidence, and subsequent laboratory analysis. Police and investigators are often confronted with a death scene that they cannot initially determine the manner of death; these instances are known as equivocal death.Coverage focuses on the basics of death investigation and the how to’s rather than dwelling on extraneous and unnecessary detail. By example, it is generally more important for the detective or CSI to understand how to properly pick up forensic evidence at the scene, and how the resulting analysis relates to their investigation, rather than the mechanics of how the evidence is extracted and analyzed at the lab. For suicide and equivocal deaths, it is likewise important that detectives also understand the importance of such things as a victimology assessment, risk factors, and/or ante mortem behaviors of the victim, cues that may provide clues that would be consistent with someone contemplating suicide. The book also features several aspects of criminal investigation that are not found in similar books, including coverage of victimology, including crime scene staging, the notion of psychology autopsy, and how to identify those risk factors or behaviors that are consistent with suicide including motive, intent, and ability. Equivocal Death: Investigating Suicide, Accidental, and other Questionable Deaths serves as an essential reference for the detective, crime scene investigators, coroners and medical examiners, medicolegal investigators, and prosecutors actively involved in these types of cases.
