Moreover, they enable healthcare providers to deliver more personalized and accurate healthcare services thanks to integrating technologies like artificial intelligence. Ehealth optimizes healthcare costs, addresses current, pressing needs of individuals, communities and societies and adapts to the changing landscape of healthcare, making it a crucial and highly relevant topic in today’s world. British Representations of the Armenian Genocide, 1915-23 (Routledge Studies in Modern British History)

by Peter Morgan

This book examines how British politicians, national and local newspapers, writers and commentators discussed the mass killing and deportation of Armenians during the period 1915-1923.Seeking to fill a historiographical gap in the field of modern genocide studies, this volume shows the extent to which the British public sphere understood the concept of genocide before the Holocaust and before the word itself was invented. It demonstrates the centrality of the British discourse on the Armenian massacres and deportations as they were happening during the First World War and how it came to be as important as that on German excesses in Belgium. This book reveals for the first time how the news was widely circulated in the provincial press and not just in contemporary major titles, and how it found its way into everyday conversation and the subject of an adventure novel. In analysing how the violence was viewed as an orientalist projection onto the Turkish ‘Other,’ this volume makes an important contribution to the literature on the more troubling side of the ‘British Self’ and imperial colonialism. This volume will be of interest to undergraduates studying First World War Britain as well as researchers investigating the development of modern genocide and how it was discussed and conceptualised.

Gendering Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: Levelling the Field (Routledge Studies in Entrepreneurship)

by Marit Breivik-Meyer Marta Lindvert Anne-Charlott Callerstig Dag Balkmar Gry Agnete Alsos

The increased interest in entrepreneurial ecosystems often builds on the underlying assumption that entrepreneurs have equal access to resources, participation, and support. However, women are underrepresented in successful entrepreneurial ecosystems and a persistent gender bias continues to exist. This bias is reflected in assumptions about the typical entrepreneur. It is white American men that spring to mind, portrayed as entrepreneurial superheroes, associated with risk- taking and big money. That they are men is often taken for granted; with successful female entrepreneurs seldom elevated in the same way. This illustrates how entrepreneurship is gendered, with implications for resource access and chances of success. The entrepreneurial ecosystem is not a level playing field. This bbook gives insights on how to remedy gendered challenges that pose problems not only for individuals but also for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. By analysing ways of making entrepreneurial ecosystems more gender- inclusive, the chapters collectively highlight the impact of gender dynamics on entrepreneurial ecosystems and introduce innovative methods for fostering inclusivity. With examples from around the globe, they emphasise the actors and factors that matter for gender- inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems. The book is interdisciplinary and will appeal to scholars, upper- level students and policymakers interested in entrepreneurship and gender inclusivity.

Secularism and Freedom of Religion in Italy: Religious Symbols in the Public Space (ICLARS Series on Law and Religion)

by Maria Cristina Ivaldi

The display of religious symbols in the public space has been the subject of much debate. This book provides an overview of the presence of religious symbols in Italian public institutions from a legal standpoint. The situation is analysed from the perspective of the principles of laicità/secularism, as defined by the Constitutional Court, and freedom of religion. It is argued that while the display of religious symbols in public institutions has been widely investigated doctrinally, the wearing of religious symbols in Italy has generally been neglected. Key cases are examined in light of national jurisprudence as well as intervention by the European Court of Human Rights and relevant judgments from foreign courts regarding this issue. Finally, the work considers the presence of religious symbols that transcend national borders, as in the case of arts, sport and advertising. A comparison is made with the French system which takes a very different approach. The book outlines possible ways forward in light of the growing interculturality of European societies. It will be a valuable resource for academics, researchers and policy-makers working in the areas of law and religion, and comparative law.

Climate Justice: What Rich Nations Owe the World—and the Future

by Cass R. Sunstein

The social cost of carbon: The most important number you've never heard of—and what it means. If you're injuring someone, you should stop—and pay for the damage you've caused. Why, this book asks, does this simple proposition, generally accepted, not apply to climate change? In Climate Justice, a bracing challenge to status-quo thinking on the ethics of climate change, renowned author and legal scholar Cass Sunstein clearly frames what’s at stake and lays out the moral imperative: When it comes to climate change, everyone must be counted equally, regardless of when they live or where they live—which means that wealthy nations, which have disproportionately benefited from greenhouse gas emissions, are obliged to help future generations and people in poor nations that are particularly vulnerable. Invoking principles of corrective justice and distributive justice, Sunstein argues that rich countries should pay for the harms that they have caused and that all of us are obliged to take steps to protect future generations from serious climate-related damage. He shows how “choice engines,” informed by artificial intelligence, can enable people to save money and to reduce the harms they produce. The book casts new light on the “social cost of carbon,” the most important number in climate change debates—and explains how intergenerational neutrality and international neutrality can help all nations, above all the United States and China, do what must be done.

Cybernetic Circulation Complex: Big Tech and Planetary Crisis

by Nick Dyer-Witheford Alessandra Mularoni

An anti-capitalist guide to breaking the power of Big TechBig Tech firms dominate the global economy. But what value do they actually produce? In this brilliant survey of global tech economy, Nick Dyer-Witheford and Alessandra Mularoni argue that the role of firms like Amazon and Google, Palantir and Uber, is in the automation of circulation.By applying digital technologies to processes of market exchange—everything from advertising and shopping, to logistics and financial services—Big Tech aims to subject these activities to the level of control and predictability that capital has secured in industrial production. But there is a way out of the multiple crises that Big Tech has helped precipitate. If we are to break their grip on the global economy then it&’ll take more than just antitrust legislation or reducing individual time online.By understanding the central role Big Tech plays in contemporary capitalism, Dyer-Witheford and Mularoni argue that what is required instead is a new, ambitious and comprehensive program of democratic collective planning that can move us beyond capitalism. Cybernetic Circulation Complex offers not only a compelling analysis of the power of Big Tech and their role in our current global crises, but a roadmap for a new form of life: biocommunism, a digital degrowth that can help us steer between the double boundaries of ecological sustainability and equitable social development.

Camp Jeff

by Tova Reich

An old New York Catskills hotel is converted into a Reeducation center for star #MeToo offenders in a story full of cunning and craft, double meanings and doppelgangers.A finalist for the National Jewish Book Award strikes again with another brilliant satire—a treat for readers of Philip Roth, Dara Horn, Nathan Englander, and others.Somewhere in the Catskills there&’s a camp, it&’s called Camp Jeff. The place is named for Jeffrey Epstein, not that Jeffrey Epstein, this is the good Jeffrey Epstein, a benefactor who wants his name on the building, though the bad one&’s not entirely irrelevant to this story. Tova Reich&’s newest novel, on the heels of her award-winning Mother India is a raucous and biting tale of a reeducation camp for alleged sex offenders. Reich&’s verbal blade is sharp and she slashes with it, but not without the sensitivity that such incisiveness requires. Camp Jeff is a work in Reich&’s signature satirical mode, an unhindered indictment of both #MeToo and therapeutic culture, and at the same time is also a deeply considered work of psychological portraiture and an examination of love, faith, and affection in American culture.
