¿Cuál Camino?

by Luisa Jeter Walker

Which Way?This manual satisfies two needs: that of knowing false doctrines in order to remain firm in the truth and that of learning to approach those who wander lost in the darkness of error with love and solid arguments.Saint of the Later Days Positive Confession Movement of a New Era The Theology of Liberation What does the Bible Say? "There is way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death," Solomon wrote in Proverbs 14:12. Today it is necessary to have a simple and strong biblical manual, like the one that the author offers to the evangelical world. This manual satisfies two needs: to identify false doctrines so we can stay strong in the truth, and to love and direct those that are lost in the darkness to the light, Jesus Christ.A veteran missionary to Latin America, Walker helps the reader recognize false doctrines and provides assistance and sound counsel to those trapped in cults by Biblical misinterpretations.

The Bible's First Kings: Uncovering the Story of Saul, David, and Solomon

by Avraham Faust Zev I. Farber

Saul, David, and Solomon are dominant figures in the Hebrew Bible, rulers of an expanding Israelite polity before it dissolved into two separate kingdoms. Saul's paranoid jealousy, David's killing the Philistine champion Goliath with a slingshot, and Solomon's meeting the Queen of Sheba are familiar stories to many people, but what is the truth behind the texts? While scholars long believed these three monarchs to have been historical personalities, over the past three decades many have questioned the historicity of this United Monarchy, some doubting even the existence of its founding fathers. This book robustly argues that the Israelite kingdom of the Bible was a real mini-empire, and that Saul, David, and Solomon were kings of consequence – even if the biblical stories reimagine their lives to glorify and vilify them. Combining fresh archaeological evidence with astute readings of key texts, the authors offer a compelling reconstruction of this fascinating ancient polity which, though it lasted less than a hundred years, has bequeathed a remarkable religious and cultural legacy to the western world. Written in a clear and engaging style, this book will be of interest to scholars and general audiences alike.

The Pluralistic Frameworks of Ibn Rushd and Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im (Elements in Comparative Political Theory)

by Ayesha Omar

The purpose of this Element is to analyse the assiduous attempts of two Islamic political thinkers-the 12th century Andalusian philosopher Ibn Rushd and the contemporary Sudanese reformist Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im-to theorise Islamic politics through an approach the author refers to as 'pluralistic frameworks'. A pluralistic framework, is a systematic mediation of Islamic ethics and politics that incorporates extra-Islamic traditions of thought from diverse sources. Pluralistic frameworks selectively and self-consciously enable dialogue, synthesis, and hybridity and seek to maintain a distinct conception of Islamic ethics that concords with a preferred set of political arguments. They enable reflexivity within the ethical purview of Islam and with an awareness of the normativity of sharī'a.Both Ibn Rushd and An-Na'im reconcile sharī'a in two very different ways, but to a common end; Ibn Rushd lays out a method of harmonisation with Greek thought, while An-Na'im resorts to the radical subversion of sharia under liberal thought.

Principles of Behavioral Economics: Microeconomics and Human Behavior

by Sanjit Dhami

Principles of Behavioral Economics, written by an acknowledged leader in the field, provides a comprehensive introduction to one of the most exciting areas of modern economics. It demonstrates how models of economic theory can be enriched by using interdisciplinary insights from psychology, sociology, evolutionary biology, and neuroscience to build the basis for a more empirically supported set of economic principles. Unique in its level of rigor and lucidity, the book highlights the important link between theoretical and empirical economics by demonstrating the usefulness of a range of data sources such as observational data, lab data, survey data, and neuroeconomic data. This field-defining textbook argues that behavioral economics is not just a supplement to mainstream economics. Taking behavioral economics seriously requires a total rethink, and eventual transformation, of every area of economics.

Chinese Mental Health Scale Translation (New Frontiers in Translation Studies)

by Meng Ji Yi Shan

This open access book illustrates the key steps and procedures of developing mental health scales into linguistically and culturally appropriate translations. Through illustrative case studies, we demonstrate that traditional forward and backward translation have significant methodological limitations when applied in mental health scale translation, such as linguistic and cultural inaccessibility and inaccuracy in the clinic. Our book will stimulate more academic debates and further systematic research into the significant, interdisciplinary area of mental health translation, which has been underexplored in Translation Studies.

Die Verstetigung internationaler Hochschulstudienprogramme: Eine Governance-Analyse deutsch-arabischer Hochschulkooperationen (Educational Governance #59)

by Younes Qrirou

Frontiers of Human Centricity in the Artificial Intelligence-Driven Society 5.0 (Studies in Systems, Decision and Control #226)

by Azzam Hannoon Sameh Reyad

According to Serpa (in MDPI encyclopedia) [3], Society 5.0 can be realized as a concept and a guide for social development, with a profound impact on current societal structures in multiple levels. Society 5.0 achieves advanced convergence between cyberspace and physical space, enabling AI-based on big data and robots to perform or support as an agent the work and adjustments that humans have done up to now. Deguchi et al., [4] define Society 5.0 as a highly intelligent society based on generation, processing, exchange of data, and more specifically knowledge, through the connection of the physical environment with the cyberspace. Achieving Society 5.0 with these attributes would enable the world to realize economic development while solving key social problems. It would additionally contribute to achieving the SDGs established by the United Nations. Despite the differences in formulation of the names of these periods and societies, it is obvious that each of them became a basis for step like growth in developed society; at, specific time periods, scale, character and depth of these changes are different in different countries. Consequently, to address the aims of the book, it seeks exploratory, empirical, interpretive, and theoretical research built on either primary or secondary data. The approaches suggested are not exhaustive and can be extended upon by the researchers. In addition, the book will contribute towards the UN’s sustainable development goals. In support of UN’s efforts towards a more digital economy, this book aims to debate and discuss the history, genesis, future, opportunities, and challenges of transitioning to Society 5.0. and provides a holistic perspective on a variety of topics special topics which contribute towards the optimal attainment of the SDGs, particularly in terms of socialdimensions. Finally, this book provides a platform for researchers, academics, and professionals to the transition and technological enablers of industrial revolutions through empirical or exploratory studies that use a variety of innovative approaches. The target audience of the book includes researchers and scholars who will find in its comprehensive knowledge about industry 4, industry 5, society 5 and its contribution to economic growth and sustainable development goals (SDGs). Furthermore, the book’s secondary target audience are teachers, managers, strategists, professionals, governments, and policymakers.

Revisiting the Eclipse of Darwinism: A Historiographical and Philosophical Analysis (Evolutionary Biology – New Perspectives on Its Development #8)

by Michał Jakub Wagner

This book focuses on a critical reexamination of two prominent categories used in modern historiography of biology – “the eclipse of Darwinism” and the “modern synthesis”. The main objective is to critically analyze the main existing interpretations of the “eclipse of Darwinism” and emergence of the “modern synthesis”, with particular emphasis on the philosophical assumptions adopted in these interpretations. Thus, interpretations by Ernst Mayr, Peter Bowler, Mark Largent and modern historians who challenge these perspectives are discussed and critically evaluated The analysis of the above interpretations makes it possible to determine how the philosophy of science limits the interpretation of the history of a given field, and also serves as a starting point for proposing an original interpretation of the above period in the history of evolutionary biology. The ultimate goal will therefore be a proposal of a new interpretative perspective to answer following questions: Why did the “eclipse of the Darwinism” occur? How should its origins to be understood? Why did it end (and why did the “modern synthesis” emerge)? Main thesis of this book is that the “eclipse” was a direct response to inconsistent ontology upon which Darwin built his theory of evolution. Darwin referred to terms and concepts rooted in the philosophy of essentialism, which was problematic, because he tried to apply these essentialist concepts to his vision of the ever-changing nature. Therefore, all of the anti-Darwinian theories characteristic to the “eclipse of Darwinism” and later to the “modern synthesis” were produced in an attempt to reconcile essentialism with evolution and thus to correct Darwin's philosophical “error.” The book will appeal to biologists, philosophers and historians alike.

Witty, romantic and laced with *chef's kiss* sexual tension, it's the perfect slice of summer escapism." —CATHERINE WALSH"Sizzling, sexy and great fun - the perfect holiday read." —SOPHIE COUSENSJo Watson delivers a hilarious and heartfelt enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity rom-com! It's the book you won't want to go on holiday without! Perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Beth O'Leary, and Christina Lauren.Journalist Margaret loves her job, writing important stories about the impact of government decisions on day-to-day lives for a respected newspaper in Johannesburg. There’s only one problem: her co-worker, Jagger Villain. Is that even his real name? she often wonders. Jagger spends his days writing fluff pieces on everything from the worst-rated barber in Johannesburg to speed dating to male sex toys. To make matters worse, they share a cubicle and a desk, and every day he finds new ways to drive her to distraction. She needs a vacation! Thankfully the upcoming company quiz night has the perfect first prize: a deluxe trip to a resort in Zanzibar. It will be the perfect escape for Margaret and her mother after a difficult year dealing with the death of her father and divorce. Margaret’s never met a quiz night she can’t win, but then she’s never competed against Jagger. That’s when the unthinkable happens. They tie. They both win. They both get to go to Zanzibar. It’s bad enough that Margaret has to be on the same island as Jagger, but at least she has her widowed mother with her to help her avoid her co-worker and whoever he brings. However, Jagger’s plus one isn’t what she expected. It’s not some girl of the moment, it's his father, which shakes up her opinion of him . . . at least a bit. And that’s when the entire situation goes from farce to horror show: their parents fall in love and decide to get married.Suddenly Margaret and Jagger go from co-workers who dislike each other (but also ‘accidentally’ had sex one night,) to step siblings who dislike each other (but also ‘accidentally’ had sex one night!). But maybe they don’t dislike each other as much as they initially thought they did?

The Island at the Center of the World

by Russell Shorto

In a riveting, groundbreaking narrative, Russell Shorto tells the story of New Netherland, the Dutch colony which pre-dated the Pilgrims and established ideals of tolerance and individual rights that shaped American history. "Astonishing . . . A book that will permanently alter the way we regard our collective past." --The New York Times When the British wrested New Amsterdam from the Dutch in 1664, the truth about its thriving, polyglot society began to disappear into myths about an island purchased for 24 dollars and a cartoonish peg-legged governor. But the story of the Dutch colony of New Netherland was merely lost, not destroyed: 12,000 pages of its records–recently declared a national treasure–are now being translated. Russell Shorto draws on this remarkable archive in The Island at the Center of the World, which has been hailed by The New York Times as &“a book that will permanently alter the way we regard our collective past.&” The Dutch colony pre-dated the &“original&” thirteen colonies, yet it seems strikingly familiar. Its capital was cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic, and its citizens valued free trade, individual rights, and religious freedom. Their champion was a progressive, young lawyer named Adriaen van der Donck, who emerges in these pages as a forgotten American patriot and whose political vision brought him into conflict with Peter Stuyvesant, the autocratic director of the Dutch colony. The struggle between these two strong-willed men laid the foundation for New York City and helped shape American culture. The Island at the Center of the World uncovers a lost world and offers a surprising new perspective on our own.

Alaska Ivory Hunter: Rogue Adventures in the Far North

by Neil Eklund

This is a true history of the gift of the many adven- tures I've been able to enjoy in the magnificent state of Alaska. My life in Alaska transitioned from legal exciting and wild exploits to what has still been a life full of adventure, but a life that was at the edge of the law. Alaska is an immense wilderness. It doesn't need federal protection. It needs to be left under state control so that its bountiful resources can be harvested and developed responsibly as the state has always done. Federal interference in the affairs of Alaska, which already has a great state govern- ment, has actually had a terribly negative influence on all the people of Alaska.
